Acclaimed Australian Travel Photographer Richard I'Anson Leads Luxury Photographic Retreat at Bamurru Plains

Wild Bush Luxury

Richard I'Anson, one of Australia's most talented travel photographers, will host a four-day photographic retreat at Wild Bush Luxury's remote and striking Bamurru Plains on the Northern Territory's Mary River Floodplains, from the 21 to 25 May, 2015.

The Top End Wilderness Photo Safari is available to a maximum of 10 aspiring photographers from AUD$4,899 per person (or AUD$995 for a single supplement).

Richard I'Anson – author of the best-selling Lonely Planet's Guide to Travel Photography and founder of Lonely Planet images, will share his creative experiences as he provides guests with hands-on tuition against the stunning backdrop of Bamurru Plains. Participants will join a professionally led photographic exploration of the unique wilderness, wildlife and ancient landscapes that characterise Australia's vast Top End, with exclusive access to Bamurru's 300 km² area of privately-owned property.

I'Anson has chosen to return to Bamurru Plains for a third time after experiencing the lodge's exceptional hospitality and strikingly diverse environment, which presents an array of exciting photo opportunities.

“Bamurru has an amazing wealth of wildlife and a host of dramatic landscapes. The intriguing property is also located close to an area rich in Aboriginal culture, and these characteristics mean that the camp and its surrounding environment are rich in inspiration for any photographer, whether budding or professional,” said I'Anson.

“This year I'm looking forward to the new addition of 'The Hide', a luxury bird and wildlife watching structure raised six metres above the Mary River Flood Plains which will add a new perspective of this vibrant and very photogencic area.”

The Top End Wilderness Photo Safari itinerary includes morning and afternoon photography sessions with I'Anson, plus private, guided trips amongst the floodplains and savannah woodlands of Bamurru Plains. Airboat tours are also included, a signature activity at Bamurru Plains, giving guests access to the property's secret spots. A highlight for keen photographers is a full day private group trip to Arnhem Land, the greatest stronghold of Aboriginal culture  in Australia, well-known for its isolation and ancient Indigenous culture.

The Top End Wilderness Photo Safari will be combined with the classic, indulgent touches and warm hospitality synonymous with Wild Bush Luxury. Guests will sleep in nine comfortable safari bungalows which overlook the surrounding wilderness and will be treated to delicious chef-prepared meals each day. A central lounge area, well-stocked library and an outdoor swimming pool offer opportunities to wind down after a day behind the camera.

Just 20 minutes by light aircraft, or a three hour drive from Darwin, Bamurru Plains is a unique wilderness camp situated on a 300km² private property on the edge of Kakadu National Park, which hosts an abundance of bird species and wildlife. During the retreat, participants can expect to encounter tens of thousands of Magpie Geese mingling with Whistling Kites, egrets, herons, crocodile and buffalo on the floodplain, as well as Blue-winged Kookaburras, parrots, cockatoos and Agile Wallabies, which inhabit the fringing woodlands.

The Top End Wilderness Photo Safari with Richard I'Anson costs AUD$4,899 per person, twin share, with a single supplement of AUD$995. The itinerary includes four nights in a fan-cooled safari bungalow, all meals and select beverages, plus a four-day photography program with Richard I'Anson.  A full day private group day trip to Arnhem Land by air, return flights from Darwin to Bamurru as per the scheduled flight times, a transfer from the General Aviation Terminal to Darwin Airport and meals and beverages as outlined in the itinerary are also included.
