Zurichs Iconic Luxury City Resort 'Dolder Grand' Voted Among World's Best New Hotels

The Dolder Grand

Zurichs iconic city resort, The Dolder Grand, has been ranked among the worlds best new hotels on Travel + Leisure magazine's influential 'It List 2009'.

The prestigious accolade rewards a spectacular US$400 million facelift of the historic health spa.

The Dolder Grand was included alongside 45 acclaimed new hotels and resorts worldwide in the annual honours list. It was the only Swiss hotel voted into the renowned directory of the worlds best new hotels -- and one of only eight in Europe.

The historic Zurich landmark has been transformed into a stunning, modern 5-star city resort by world-renowned London architects Foster and Partners.

Dating back to 1899 as a 'curhaus' health spa, it was newly reopened in 2008 following a four-year conversion and renovation combining innovative building and design technology with restoration of original architectural features to their former glory.

The Travel + Leisure recognition follows hot-on-the-heels of The Dolder Grand being voted Best New or Renovated Hotel in the 2009 Design Awards by international travel and design magazine, Wallpaper.

Over the summer period, two promotional packages are launched, valid until October 31, for visitors to experience the award-winning resort. A '3 for 2 Experience' offers three nights for the price of two, including breakfast, with rates starting from CHF 1,080 (EURO 715) for one and CHF 1,740 (EURO 1,152) for two. Rates for suites start at CHF 2,300. (EURO 1,552)

A similar '4 for 3 Experience' offers four nights for the price of three, priced from CHF 2,610 (EURO 1,727) and from CHF 3,450 (EURO 2,280) for suites. All prices include VAT, service and taxes.

The luxury city resort has unrivalled views of the city, lake and the Alps. It now features 173 exceptionally luxurious rooms and suites in the historic Main Building and two entirely new Golf and Spa wings -- incorporating a stunning 4,000 square metre 'temple of well-being created by renowned American spa consultant Sylvia Sepielli.

Also introduced is a new state-of-the-art ballroom, banqueting and seminar facilities.

Fine modern European dining is at The Restaurant, and a chic Garden Restaurant affords spectacular views of the city, lake and mountains from its outdoor terrace. The Bar is a black marble masterpiece with sweeping staircase and gold beaded curtains.

Now positioned as a top-ranking international luxury city resort, The Dolder Grand is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World and Swiss Deluxe Hotels.
