Salvia

The mountains and valleys, orange and lemon groves, ancient olive trees and terraces around Soller, north west Mallorca, provide an unerring source of inspiration to artists and painters who come to catch the ever changing seasons reflected there. Peaceful and relaxing, yet dramatic and evocative, Soller is the perfect place for a special celebration.

Hidden a few narrow cobbled streets from the central plaza in Soller, Hotel Salvia is listed under S for stylish in the address books of those in the know.

The unassuming front gates of the hotel open into a cool stone interior courtyard, which leads out into a sun-filled, bougainvillea-shaded garden, complete with its own luxury swimming pool and breathtaking backdrop of majestic Spanish mountains. Inside, the house is stuffed with 18th century antiques, claw-foot baths, flickering candles and fresh flowers. Irish owners Siobhan and Brian Kearney have created a welcoming atmosphere which is perfect for upmarket house parties and small, very select weddings.

No conveyor-belt style nuptials here. This sumptuous six-suite hotel employs its own wedding co-ordinator who will arrange absolutely everything a bride could dream of. Hotel Salvia can accommodate up to 16 when the whole house is booked privately, and will arrange catering to suit, so bride and groom can bring their own guests.

The wedding couple, who have usually been married in a civil ceremony in their own country, can really go to town on the blessing and reception. Surrounded by the heady scent of fresh flowers and herbs couples can be blessed in the gardens Hollywood-romance style, in one of the beautiful 18th century high-ceilinged rooms, or even in a choice of local churches, (including the famous 11th century Saint Bartholomew in the town square).

For the honeymoon, tennis lessons, walking guides, natural health and beauty treatments, local boat and bike hire can all be arranged by the hotel. Nothing is too much trouble. There are a number of internationally recognised golf courses nearby. Palma is 30 minutes away, or one hour by vintage train.

For a special wedding, the beautiful 18th century Hotel Salvia is a fitting place. When it comes to a classy but discreet party the hotel ticks all the boxes, and then some.

Exclusive hire of the house and its staff is available on selected dates from March 2006 onwards, and costs from 10,250 per week.
