The ancient Trelowarren Estate on Cornwall's Lizard Peninsula has added yoga to its mix of delights aimed at making people happy during their precious holidays.
Weather permitting, Tree poses and Downward Dogs can be found in the realm of the olive trees, ozone pool and Organic Spa in Trelowarren's peaceful Walled Garden.
Green credentials across the Estate have long instilled a feeling of environmental wellbeing for guests enjoying the luxury self-catering cottages and facilities in and around Trelowarren's 1000 acres. Daphne du Maurier felt the sense of peace and calm here more than eighty years ago, likening Trelowarren Manor in its landscape to “a jewel in the palm of your hand” as she took it as inspiration for Navron House in her novel Frenchman's Creek.
Now Trelowarren's guests can join twice weekly yoga sessions introduced by two highly qualified teachers, with Fiona taking gentle Hatha-style classes on a Wednesday morning and Kerenza offering flowing Vinyasa yoga on a Friday.
Kerenza Cooksey is also running a Winter Yoga Retreat at Trelowarren over the weekend of November 12 to 14 – a full immersion of yoga and meditation combined with fabulous food and luxury accommodation, wild winter walks and toasty fires.
Kerenza says, “Having taught all over the world, from Bali to New York, I can honestly say there is no better place than the Walled Garden at Trelowarren. Beauty and aesthetics aside, the Walled Garden is warm, peaceful and immediately evokes a sense of being at one with nature, which ultimately is what yoga is all about.”
Generations of visitors have found Trelowarren itself a perfect place for families or groups of friends to spend happy, relaxed time together - enjoying all the benefits of a top class hotel without the restrictions of staying in one.
Owners Ferrers and Victoria Vyvyan (Sir Ferrers and Lady Vyvyan) have spent the last twenty five years on a sensitive and ecologically-sound restoration of the old cottages, barns and stables as well as building super-high-spec eco-houses with log-burners, fine art and masses of space inside and out.
They and the Trelowarren team have created a place where guests can relax in pure air and countryside and enjoy great facilities including the ozone pool, the Walled Garden Organic Spa, the gym, a tennis court, art gallery and a fabulous couple of restaurants.
There are more than 20 luxury houses and cottages of all sizes to choose from - but historic Fougou sleeps 6-8 and a week in August is £2350, while modern Gweal Gullas sleeps 6 - 8 - also costing £2350 a week in August. Yoga classes are £8 a session and day visitors are also welcome to enjoy yoga and a swim for £10. The Winter Yoga Retreat from November 12 – 14 is £395 per person in a shared twin room or £495 for a private room.

NOTES TO EDITORS
TRELOWARREN
- Trelowarren's Winter Yoga Retreat – is run by Kerenza Cooksey who has been teaching for over 12 years and owns two yoga studios, one in Cornwall and one in Australia. Keren teaches vinyasa yoga - an energising and uplifting style of yoga incorporating all aspects of the yoga mix – breathing, physical practice and meditation.
- Trelowarren's famous “green” leisure facilities include its eco-holiday homes, a twenty metre, pebble-lined ozone pool and state-of-the-art gym – heating and warm water for which are all provided by a 350 kWh biomass Binda boiler which itself burns coppiced and waste wood from the surrounding land.
- The history of Trelowarren and the Vyvyan family goes back to 1427, but the story from 1945 - when the widowed Lady Vyvyan writing to Daphne du Maurier described everything at Trelowarren after war time requisition as 'death-duties, dust and ruin' - to the present day has been one of re-birth, renewal and restoration.
