In only 15 minutes travel from Circular Quay to the open ocean and start seeing whales on a Captain Cook Cruises Whale Watching cruise these July school holidays. See the amazement in the kids' eyes as they spot the world's largest mammal, a sight that will astound even the most computer-bound child.
Captain Cook Cruises operate daily Whale Watching cruises throughout the July school holidays and Whale season. Cruises depart from Circular Quay and take passengers past the Sydney Opera House, Fort Denison and the eastern suburbs, before passing through the Harbour headlands.
Once in open water the excitement begins as the kids start spotting Humpbacks visiting Sydney's coastline as part of their annual migration and witness their spectacular behaviour including breaching, spy hopping, pec and tail waving and slapping.
Southern Rights, Orcas and Minke whales may also be spotted, as well as seals, albatross and fairy penguins. Dolphins nearly always accompany the cruise, with some pods numbering up to 100 individuals.
July is the peak time to spot Whales and according to Ecological Consultant and Captain Cook Cruises Marine Commentator, David James, 2018 looks set to be another great Whale season.
“2017 was the most incredible whale watching season on record. Whales were spotted on over 95% of departures and up to 18 whales seen each time. With whale sightings increasing every year, 2018 should blow those statistics out of the water.”
Each cruise features expert commentary and a highly skilled onboard team, ensuring whales are not only spotted, but guests are educated about them while doing so.
Whale watching cruises are operated on ocean-going and family-friendly catamarans “Maggie Cat” and “Nancy Wake”. Each vessel is equipped with two passenger decks and spacious outdoor and indoor viewing areas including an all-weather lounge, ideal for the entire family. Snacks and drinks can be purchased on-board.
Captain Cook Cruises operate Whale Watching cruises throughout the Whale Watching season from 19 May to 31 October 2018 and passengers are offered a whale guarantee; if a whale is not spotted, passengers can cruise again for free.
Whale Watching cruises are priced at $85 per adult and $49 per child. Book online and save up to 35% with specials from $55 per adult. Cruises operate daily from Circular Quay Wharf 6, departing at 1.30pm and returning at 4.15pm. Additional morning cruises operate on Saturday and Sundays departing at 10.15am and returning at 1.00pm.
