Airline records 88% flight departure punctuality
WOW air, Iceland’s only low-cost airline, has released its passenger numbers and flight punctuality figure, recording impressive stats and year-on-year increases from 2012 to 2013.
Hollywood blockbuster movie filming hot spot, for films like Ben Stiller’s Walter Mitty, Tom Cruises’ Oblivion, and Thor: The Dark World has seen an increase in British travellers flying in from London Gatwick to Reykjavik of 281%, from 7,223 in 2012 to 27,500 in 2013. A massive 32,000 Icelanders travelled from Reykjavik to London in the year ending 31 December 2013.
"We are very proud of our achievements and continue to grow our operation and offering to meet the customers’ requirements. Since inception in November 2011 we have made a huge impact in the low-cost flight operator market,” said Skúli Mogensen, WOW air founder and CEO.
“Iceland’s vast array of tourist sights and experiences has played a significant role in generating interest in travelling to the country”, added Mogensen.
In total, for 2013 WOW air provided 504 flights from London to Reykjavik, with an impressive 88% departure punctuality for all flights (average).
Apart from these impressive stats, the airline also recorded the fact that bicycles are a common piece of excess luggage, which befits the fact that Iceland is recognised as a destination for avid cyclists thanks to its terrain and landscape, and WOW air’s annual WOW cyclothon event.
By the end of 2013 WOW air flew to 16 destinations: London, Copenhagen, Paris, Berlin, Milano, Alicante, Barcelona, Lyon, Zurich, Dusseldorf, Stuttgart, Vilnius, Warsaw, Amsterdam, Salzburg, and Reykjavik. The airline is adding its transatlantic flight from London Gatwick to Boston to the roster by spring 2014.
