Miami Beach Centennial - The City of Miami Beach is in the final weeks of preparing to launch the yearlong centennial celebration as the city turns 100 years old. Led by the vision and energy of Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine, the centennial celebration will run through October 31, 2015 with the theme “This is How We Celebrate.” As the official birthday approaches on March 26, 2105, the major 100-hour extravaganza will include concurrent and continuous events throughout the city. These events will celebrate various areas of history that make up Miami Beach including fashion, cultural arts, sports and entertainment.
Miami Design District - Construction is underway to further transform the Miami Design District into a destination for cutting-edge fashion, art, design and culture. Beginning in Fall 2014, luxury fashion brands such as Givenchy, Miu Miu, Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, Valentino, Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani and Van Cleef & Arpels will be opening in the redeveloped Design District, joining other high-end designers like Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Berluti, Emilio Pucci, Maison Martin Margiela, Prada, Rick Owens, Celine and Cartier who have already set up shops. The new development will also include buildings by renowned architects Sou Fujimoto, Aranda/Lasch, K/R, Iwamoto Scott and Leong Leong. New art installations by John Baldessari and The Buckminster Fuller Institute will join the existing installations by Zaha Hadid and Marc Newson.
The Patricia Frost Museum of Science - The Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science (formerly known as the Miami Science Museum) is currently working to transplant the museum from its current location to Park West at Bicentennial Park in Downtown Miami, along with the new Pérez Art Museum Miami. The museum broke ground for the new museum in February 2012 and the grand opening is expected in 2015. Soaring upwards from Biscayne Bay, MiaSci will share the city's 40-acre Museum Park with the new Pérez Art Museum Miami, creating a powerful cultural magnet in downtown Miami. Designed to provide a welcoming environment in keeping with South Florida's unique subtropical climate, MiaSci incorporates advanced communications and energy-conservation technology, as well as a host of visitor-friendly features. Structured around a lushly landscaped indoor and outdoor 'living core' of terrestrial and aquatic exhibits, featuring one-of-a-kind aquarium components, a state-of-the-art digital dome, hands-on exhibits and interactive digital technology, MiaSci will offer one of the world's most exciting museum experiences.
Jungle Island - Iconic Attractions Group, has announced a master plan to elevate Miami's Jungle Island into an iconic landmark for eco - adventure and events. The conceptual plan includes new attractions and sub-destinations that tie in the diverse culture of the 18-acre park's South Florida surroundings with journeys authentic of the jungle. Key focal points of the plan include upgrades to the entry area, creation of a 'Lost Lagoon' with rope swings and zip lines, snorkelling and swimming “with” tigers, new adventure trails and a Parrot Cove. To complement the master plan, Jungle Island is getting ready to unveil an array of new packages designed to get visitors closer than ever before to some of the world's most fascinating animals. Among an extensive list of inclusions, each tour features a private guide and assortment of “bucket list” type encounters with rare creatures, such as Mama Cass, the only known tame cassowary on the planet, Australian red kangaroos, Peanut and Pumpkin, the third set of twin orangutans born into captivity.
Luxury hotel openings – a number of exciting luxury hotel openings have taken place in late 2014 and this is set to continue in 2015. This includes the new Metropolitan by COMO Miami Beach (opened March 2014), Ritz Carlton Bal Harbour (opened October 2014), Trump National Doral Miami (opening late 2014), The Miami Beach Edition (opening November 2014) and the Eden Roc Miami Beach is becoming a Nobu Hotel (opening late 2014).
