Celebrating the International Day of Peace, promoting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and introducing the Inner Peace Education and Practice.
Australians representing community organizations, government, civil society, business, indigenous people, scientific and academic institutions, and senior religious community figures will be gathering on September 22nd at Darling Harbour to mark the International Day of Peace. Honorary patrons and guest speakers include Major General Michael Smith (Retd), President of the United Nations Association Australia (UNAA); Bishop Philip Huggins, President of National Council of Churches; The Most Venerable Sudhammo, President of Buddhist Federation of Australia; Mr Farid Soltani, Islamic Cleric; The Hon. Philip Ruddock, Mayor of Hornsby Shire Council and former Federal Attorney-General; Mr Richard Poulton, Managing Director of AFEX Australia and Asia; and Mr Derek Leddie, Founder of Collective Mind.
Observing and celebrating the International Day of Peace, this event aims to spread the message of “peace in mind, peace in the world” to bring focus to encouraging the cultivation of inner peace through inner peace education and practice as a leading element of peace making process. This event also aims to promote and raise awareness of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which all 193 countries including Australia formally adopted in September 2015 to transform our world with peace, prosperity and environmental protection by 2030.
The SDGs reflect the voices of millions of people from all over the world, and their aspirations for the better future they want. With global challenges such as chronic poverty, violent conflicts, mass killing, climate change and health pandemics, people are at the centre of solutions to these global challenges to sustainable development.
You are warmly welcomed to join us on International Day of Peace to support the SDGs and Inner Peace education as well as to enjoy Inner Peace musical and Arts performances.
