If you wondered whether Cancun could successfully host your organizations annual meeting or convention, you were probably convinced when more than 12,000 people descended on the Mexican Caribbean in September for the Fifth Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO). After the landmark conference, the Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) reported no security breaches, efficient operation of ground transportation services, seamless delivery of conference credentials, and no major inconveniences for Conference participants throughout their stay in Cancun.
The WTO is one of dozens of businesses and organizations that chose Cancun as the host site of their annual event in 2003, and the Cancun CVB recently announced negotiations with more than 200 other organizations for the possibility of hosting future events in the Mexican Caribbean. More than 40 conferences, meetings, and special events are already scheduled to take place in Cancun this year, with a projected economic impact of nearly $29 million.
Companies and groups looking for the perfect destination to host an annual conference or special event also should note Mexicos Taza Cero policy for 2004: no taxes charged to businesses and groups that select a Mexican destination for their conference or special event in 2004. Additional information about Mexicos Taza Cero policy for 2004 is available via the Mexico Tourism Board website at www.sectur.gob.mx.
Coupled with its amazing natural wonders, the Mexican Caribbeans modern tourism infrastructure is among the principal reasons Cancun has received international acclaim as a hotspot for meetings and conventions, said Miguel Borge Martn, executive director of the Cancun CVB. Cancun is a sun-and-fun destination during the spring and summer months, but we are a Mecca for businesses and groups year-round. Todays major meeting and event planners are cutting their lead times from several years to several months in many instances, and it is our flexibility, and our ability to work with such tight schedules, that have been instrumental for Cancun to emerge as the foremost meetings and conventions destination in the Caribbean.
Following is an overview of some of Cancuns finest meeting facilities:
