Work is under way to illuminate the tunnels below The Shipwreck Treasure Museum to create the UK's longest festive light tunnel this Christmas.

Over 100 metres of passageways beneath the Charlestown attraction will be lit up to celebrate the festive season.

This year's event is bigger, brighter and bolder than ever before with 6.5 kilometers of cabling and 60,000 lights adorning the subterranean walls. The three month build will be finished in time for the launch on the 3rd December 2020.

This immersive experience will see families walking through the wardrobe into an enchanted Narnia landscape, surrounded by a frozen forest with snow covered branches. Then journey through a neon forest with trees that glow in the dark and venture into the spectacular Northern Lights installation.

In parts of the experience visitors can even feel the snow falling as they meander through the Christmas trees.

Behind the creation, Lynné Raubenheimer, has over 15 years of experience working in theatre, TV and film productions in the UK, Europe and India.

“This is a chance to escape the reality of the past year and to lose yourself in colour, imagination and fantasy,” said Lynné Raubenheimer, the event manager responsible for co-ordinating the event.

“We have also ensured a series of extra precautions and additional safety protocols are in place to ensure the visit fully complies with government guidelines,” she added.

Located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Charlestown, the Shipwreck Treasure Museum is home to one of Europe's largest collections of shipwreck treasures with over 8,000 artefacts in their collection, including the only intact barrel of coins ever recovered from the seabed.
