Traditions are Alive and Kicking in SouthWest Germany
Traditions are a way of life in SouthWest Germany and it definitely does not mean being stuck in the past. On the contrary, the people of SouthWest Germany are some of the most technologically savvy, well-versed in green economics and pushing the envelope when it comes to creating new and better ways of running things. From hydroelectric and solar energy to electric cars and top notch designs from Vitra and Bulthaup and award-winning architecture, SouthWest Germany is a place where tradition of excellence is pervasive. The traditions of the past however are still kept alive in areas where they have meaning. Centuries of craftsmanship for example are still alive and profitable with wood carvers creating intricate cuckoo clocks or the Steiff Factory creating teddy bears and toys for children around the world. The Carnival season leading up to Lent is a spectacle for enjoyment but so are the wine festivals and tastings and many of the locals take pride in growing their own grapes, or white asparagus or plums for Schnapps and fruit wines. The traditions that have survived are because the enrich the culture and the lives of those who honor them.
