Bay of Fires Winter Arts Festival
9 - 11 June

The Bay of Fires Winter Arts Festival shares the skilled artistry of local painters, sculptors, dancers, writers and musicians. A busy program of events, workshops, dance, fine art, gardens and exhibitions will lead visitors across the Bay of Fires and Break O'Day region to explore the range of installations and artist's private studios. For the first year, the popular art market will run over two days, starting with an afternoon twilight market from 2pm - 9pm on Saturday with live music in the evening, then reopening on Sunday. The festival culminates in the Bay of Fires Art Prize announcement, with a $20,000 prize on offer to the winner, as well as acquisition by the local gallery.

Dark Mofo
15 - 24 June

Dark Mofo is an exploration of light and delicious darkness - a celebration of the winter solstice played out in small and large spaces across Hobart from 15 - 24 June. The full program is released in April with events across music, visual arts, performance and feasting. If past years are anything to go by, it's going to be a mind-bending, thought-altering, fabulous festival.

Festival of Voices
29 June - 15 July

The Festival of Voices, one of our premier winter festivals, spreads the joy of singing far and wide across the state from 29 June until 15 July. Listen to voices harmonise and soar, attend performances in concert halls, theatres and public spaces or participate in one of the choirs or workshops with international guests. Each year the festival program features the free event, the Big Sing - a huge bonfire is lit in the middle of the city and the voices combine to banish the mid-winter chill.

Huon Valley Mid-Winter Festival
13 - 15 July

Over one glorious winter weekend, the Huon Valley Mid-Winter Festival celebrates the region's apple picking past and brings it into the now with a program of musical performances, cider and feasting at Willie Smith's Apple Shed. At the heart of the festival is the age-old pagan tradition of wassailing - scaring the bad spirits away from the orchard amid lots of clanging, singing, shouting, costumes and fun.

Devonport Jazz Festival
26 - 29 July

The Devonport Jazz Festival, now in it's 17th year, attracts performers from around Tasmania and Australia. Over the festival weekend, traditional performances spaces, as well as a few surprise venues, will host a festival program packed with fresh jazz and blues for everyone.

Australian Antarctic Festival
2 - 5 August

For four fascinating days, the Australian Antarctic Festival shares an insight into the life of an Antarctic explorer. The Antarctic research ships Aurora Australis and Investigator are open for tours, as well as open days at the the Institute of Marine and Antarctic Studies and the CSIRO Marine Science Laboratories. Expeditioners from the Australian Antarctic Division will be on hand to share first hand, real life accounts of what it's like to live even further south, and the visually spectacular Antarctic Film Festival will be shown.

Tasmanian Whisky Week
13 - 19 August

Dram it! Taste the best whisky Tasmania has to offer at the 2018 Tasmanian Whisky Week. Across seven swilling days, join industry events held in distilleries, bars, barns, stables, restaurants and hotels. Throughout the week distilleries will open their doors for behind-the-scenes tours to meet the distillers in person, share unreleased whiskies, and offer dining opportunities where distilleries (both old and new) will recount the successes, challenges and events that have shaped who they are today. Bookings are essential, with limited tickets available for each event.

Market life in Tasmania is an embarrassment of riches - we're lucky to play host each Saturday from 8:30am - 3pm to Salamanca Market, one of Australia's most loved general markets, as well as the Harvest Launceston Farmers Market each Saturday from 8:30am - 12:30pm and the Farm Gate Market in Hobart each Sunday morning from 8:30am - 1pm.
