Two-day wine tasting and dinner prelude to Venetian Carnevale
(Macao, April 16, 2013) - Anyone looking to kick start the fun of the month-long Venetian Carnevale at The Venetian® Macao can enjoy an Italian wine-and-dine prelude April 24 at Portofino restaurant's Spirito Bar, and a private wine dinner on April 25 in the main area of the restaurant, with guest Chef David Almany from Mario Batali's celebrity restaurants Osteria Mozza and Pizzeria Mozza, in Singapore.
Una Serata Italienne - an Italian evening - is a wine tasting and canapé event at Portofino's Spirito Bar from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Wednesday, April 24. Andrea Manuali Bastianich will present the wines, all of which come directly from the Bastianich Winery in Italy's Colli Orientali del Friali DOC region paired with finely crafted Italian appetizers by guest Chef David Almany.

Una Serata Italienne is HKD/MOP 120* per person.
The Bastianich Wine Dinner will commence with cocktails at 7:30 pm, followed by dinner at 8 pm, Thursday, April 25, and will be hosted by Bastianich and Chef Almany, who hails from Chef Mario Batali's Osteria Mozza and Pizzeria Mozza at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Almany grew up in Agoura Hills in Los Angeles, California, and began cooking at the age of 15. He attended culinary school in Santa Barbara, and on leaving went to cook at Tierra Sur under executive chef Todd Arrons, formerly of Savoy in New York City and Zuni Café in San Francisco, California. From there he moved to San Francisco to cook at Zuni Café under chef Judy Rodgers before moving back to Los Angeles to work first as a sauté cook and then as sous chef under Mario Batali at Osteria Mozza.
The Bastianich Wine Dinner is a six-course dinner and wine pairing that features grilled octopus, ricotta gnocchi and Wagyu rib eye, for HKD/MOP 800* per person.
The Venetian Macao's Portofino is an Italian restaurant located near the poolside, offering à la carte dining as well as set lunches on weekdays. The restaurant earned a Restaurant Award from U.S.-based lifestyle magazine Wine Spectator for its excellent wine programme in 2012, and was listed in Asia Tatler: Hong Kong as one of Hong Kong & Macau's Best Restaurants in 2012.
