Saint Lucia has been named the most romantic island in the Caribbean and its annual triathlon, Tri St Lucia, must be the most romantic with two proposals in the last two years.
In each of the last two years, two of the participants have been so taken by the beauty and romance of the island that they have proposed. In 2014 David Marshall to Jessica Mitchell-Wright, took place on the finish line while in 2015 Ian Smith chose to propose to Cecily Lewis over a romantic dinner at Cap Maison
David Marshall has visited St Lucia the year before to take part in the triathlon and was this inspired the proposal. He said: “I thought it was one of the most beautiful places I had ever been to. I wanted to make the proposal special and something Jessica would never forget so I thought where better than St Lucia.”
As he was welcomed across the finish line by cheering spectators and Jessica, David got down on bended knee and asked Jessica for her hand in marriage. He had brought the ring with him from the UK and even arranged for Jessica to receive a bouquet of flowers to mark the engagement.
This year Tri St Lucia (www.tristlucia.com) and host hotel, The Landings (www.landingsstlucia.com) have joined forces to give away a special romantic package that could be used for a proposal or as a romantic treat.
The full prize package includes free entry to the triathlon for one or both partners, a private dinner on the beach at The Landings, a couple's massage at the Landings' Soleil Spa and a sunset boat cruise.
Entries for the prize draw should be send to Julia@tristlucia.com by 30 April.
The St Lucia International Triathlon takes place on 19 November with the course including swimming in the crystal clear waters of Rodney Bay, cycling through the hilly countryside in the north of the island and running to local landmark, Pigeon Island. Three different distances are available to suit all abilities from beginner to expert. The event is supported by three past Olympians: Daley Thompson and Steve Cram from Britain and Jamie Peterkin from St Lucia who will host a series of master classes in the week leading up to the event.
