2nd June 2016 – In a recent interview, adventurer and survivalist Bear Grylls remarked that “something special happens to us all when we step out into the open and are presented with a challenge.” This summer, Breckenridge Tourism Office is encouraging children to have their own adrenalin-fuelled adventures in Breck, with white-water rafting, mountain biking and hiking, suitable for even the smallest of family members.
Breck Bike Week
Kids can get pedalling from 22 – 26 June 2016 at Breck Bike Week, where Breckenridge, one of the most bike-friendly communities in North America, puts on five full days of cycling-centric fun. The event kicks off with the Bike-In Movie Night, a free outdoor movie evening held at the Breckenridge Arts District, which also features kids' activities on the lawn. The schedule also includes the popular guided Campfire Ride, a night ride that ends with delicious campfire food including hot dogs and s'mores, the traditional US campfire treat of marshmallow and chocolate sandwiched between biscuits. This summer, Breckenridge also offers children the chance to ride the new Wellington Bike Park and Pump Track, featuring a large pump track, a strider track, three flow trails and a skills area. Just-Add-Water Activities
One of the elements that makes the mountain town of Breckenridge so special is its abundance of water. In summertime, children love nothing more than cooling off in a crystal-clear stream, river, waterfall or lake and white-water rafting in Breckenridge is one of the top recommended activities to do with kids. An experienced guide can tailor the perfect experience, from an adventurous rapid rush to a gentler cruise for children as young as two, which showcases Breck's wonderful wildlife and spectacular scenery. Happy Hiking
In summer the mountain peaks open up to endless hiking routes that wind back down through forests, alongside streams and across meadows, offering children exciting opportunities to go off the beaten track and be at one with nature. Little explorers can choose their own adventure from gentle, scenic paved paths to waterfall hikes or even challenging summits reaching more than 14,000 feet above sea level.
