Teignmouth, home to the rock group Muse and the setting of Colin Firth's new film, The Mercy, is finally emerging as the hidden gem of South Devon.

The pretty seaside town, one that is has been over shadowed in recent years, has been named as a holiday hot spot by The Guardian*, and South West Holiday Parks agree with the recommendation.

Josh Donald, Managing Director of South West Holiday Parks and a Devon dweller, said, “We are delighted that Teignmouth is finally being recognised as a 'must-visit' destination, but we aren't surprised. As well as the sandy beaches and ice creams stalls expected from a traditional seaside town, Teignmouth is set against a backdrop of classic Georgian buildings and is fast becoming a foodie hotspot with an up and combing arts scene.”

Insider tips from Josh and his team for enjoy Teignmouth, include:

Walk on both the 'town' and 'back' beaches, grab a drink along the way and watch the boats sail by and the sun go down.

Spend those left over pennies in the family run arcade on the Grand Pier, which was lovingly renovated after 90% was destroyed by the fierce storms of 2014.

Jump on the ferry that runs between Teignmouth and Shaldon and enjoy free entry to the village zoo, take a walk on the Ness Beach and enjoy cake and coffee at the Ode Café.

Kayaking, jet skiing, sailing and paddle boarding are popular on the sheltered estuary and SeaSports South West offer the best lessons ever.

Enjoy views that money can't on the benches of Eastcliff Park that sits on top of the cliffs looking over the sea and the railway line.

Pack your trunks and head to the heated lido for an open-air swim and picnic.

Pavilions Teignmouth is a stylish new arts venue and the bar alone is worth a visit for the views.

A trip to The Den, a Green Flag Awarded park, on seafront is popular with visitors and guests thanks to the water-park, play area, mini golf and football pitches.

For a change of scene take the train to Dawlish Warren, head into Exeter or walk around Dartmoor.

If it's creativity you crave, the town's arts quarter is packed with events exhibitions from local artists.

When it comes to food, it's independents all the way in Teignmouth. The Oystercatcher does a great breakfast, for fresh seafood there's the Blue Hut and Crab Shack, and if steak is your thing, The Bronx Diner hits the spot.

Josh added, “Coast View, Shaldon has seen significant development in the past 18 months and we the pull of the area, plus our indoor pool complex and fantastic ODE&Co restaurant, means we are seeing guest growth year on year and hope 2017 will be our best ever.”
