Why La Gomera? It's 2017's Top Spot for Unspoilt Holidays!

La Gomera

Soak Up the Sun & Surf

For its petite size of just 146 sq. miles, La Gomera offers plenty of places to unwind, and nature lovers will find no shortage of secluded bays and quiet beaches off the coast.

Kick things off with an easy swim by heading to the crescent-shaped beach of Playa de Santiago, with calm waters and a protective jetty that doubles as a diving platform. Alternatively, you  can enjoy a relaxing evening on the gently sloping, fine black sands of Playa de Alojera, where you'll also find several restaurants offering a true taste of Canarian cuisine, such as traditional specialties of fresh fish.

In the west at the town of Valle Gran Rey, whose name means “Great King Valley”, you'll find some of the most beautiful beaches on the island.  It's also a prime spot for surfing when the the waves are good for it, so you'll definitely want to drop by with your board in tow.

March to the Beat of Your Own Two Feet

La Gomera has one of the most spectacular landscapes on the planet, so you'll definitely want to bring your hiking gear if you want to fully explore the island's wonders.

For starters, Garajonay National Park offers varied trails through romantic forests and deep ravines. A real treat lies in the heart of the park at El Cedro forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to El Chorro—the tallest waterfall on the island.

In the capital of San Sebastian, history lovers can retrace the footsteps of Christopher Columbus, who stopped there on his journey to discovering the Americas. On La Gomera's northern coast, winding streets lead the way though the pastel-coloured colonial buildings of Agulo. Meanwhile in the southwest, Valle Gran Rey serves as a great starting base for hikes through diverse natural terrains.

For less experienced hikers and those new to La Gomera, you can always count on guided tours through La Gomera's most scenic routes for picture perfect views and informative lessons about local plant and animal life.

Spread Your Wings & Fly

Not only a paradise for nature lovers, La Gomera is also a hub for flying enthusiasts. In fact, it isn't unusual to see the sky in Agulo and Hermigua painted with colourful paragliders flying between the mountains and coast.

There, you can take off from a height of 450 metres above sea level, take in incredible bird's eye views, bask in the unbeatable weather and ride thermal currents that will keep you airborne for hours. From the view point of Abrante, you can even connect Agulo and Hermigua in a single flight.
