Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit

Travellers already know there is so much to see and do in Puerto Vallarta but May is a month full of different events where there'll be something for everyone! Read on for 4 of the most popular happenings this May.

Football-lovers Unite

In May, Puerto Vallarta becomes a top destination for football lovers: The seventh edition of the Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship graces Puerto Vallarta’s golden coast. 16 best national beach soccer teams in the region will compete from 13-19 May.

The teams competing are Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Belize, Bonaire, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Guyana, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, United States and US Virgin Islands. As the most popular sport in Mexico, it will be one of the best places to watch it!

A Foodie’s Dream

From 15th May to 10th June the popular gastronomic festival Restaurant Week marks its 15 year anniversary in Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit this year. Many of Puerto Vallarta’s and Riviera Nayarit’s most coveted restaurants will take part.

For the second year in a row, the festival has broken its record for participating restaurants! This year 62 establishments are preparing huge treats. Innovative three-course menus, with three options available for each course, will be served at much lower prices, often discounted by up to 50%!

A Week of Celebrations

If you love arts and cultural events, concerts, entertainment, films, fun and lots of partying, Vallarta Pride is the perfect time to come and enjoy Puerto Vallarta. The 7-day festival beginning 20th May is the largest LGBT event in the region and celebrates the lifestyle diversity and accepting and vibrant community of the city.

Make sure you don’t miss the dazzling main parade taking place from 5:00 pm on Thursday, May 23rd. Other highlights include the Lazaro Cardenas Park Party, ground zero for the main festivities, and the Mantamar pool party. There will also be a gay art walk, beach gym and shopping days!

Thrill-filled Street Sport

As a city offering multiple mountain bike adventures across the Sierra Madre and surrounding towns, MTB athletes and enthusiasts have long known Puerto Vallarta as a destination beyond its natural beauty, vibrant culture and beautiful historic town. But it’s the urban cycling competition, Down Puerto Vallarta, that has set Puerto Vallarta on the international stage of extreme and urban sports.

From 18th-19th May a series of competitions of Downhill, including Slopestyle and Freestyle modes, will fill the narrow town centre’s streets with excitement. This event will see 40 of the top internationally renowned Downhill riders including Sam Reynolds, Cam Zink and the Mexican Ricardo Peredo!
