Where to Stay This Summer in Savoie Mont Blanc

New hotels

The hotel group Lavorel, which already owns several hotels in Savoie Mont Blanc (the Palace de Menthon by Lake Annecy, and Le Chabichou and Les Suites de la Potinière in Courchevel), has bought Auberge de Letraz, also by Lake Annecy. Auberge de Letraz has been transformed into a five-star hotel called the Black Bass Hotel. It will open for the summer with 25 rooms, including four suites. It will cost from €179 for a room for two people with breakfast.

Armancette is a new five-star boutique hotel located in the village of Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce, near Saint-Gervais. With its 17 stylish bedrooms and beautiful views of Mont Blanc, it is the perfect place to relax and find happiness. Read in the cosy tea room, enjoy French pastries at the excellent bakery in the village or share a gastronomic dinner at the hotel with your friends or family.

Unique places

Alps Haven is a guest house in the village of Villard Dessus, near La Rosière. The owners, Gary and Debbie Devine, are from Leeds and moved to France 10 years ago. Gary is a former fell running champion and he also won several mountain running World Cup medals. He can advise his guests on the best trail running tracks, and can also organise cycling tours and other activities, such as white water rafting and golf. From £40 per person per night with breakfast (£60 half board).

Véronique spends the summer in the Combe de Magy, above Les Gets, with her 25 goats. She loves to share her experience and knowledge and organises meals and afternoon snacks based on goat cheese and milk. Guests can also stay for the night in her farm, La Chèvrerie des Ours, which has four cosy bedrooms. It costs €75 per night for two people, including breakfast (from May to the end of September). Dinner is €20 per person and €12 for children.

The hotel Les Lodges du Lac, near Lake Aiguebelette, has 10 chalet-lodges by the Canal du Thiers that will delight nature lovers. Each chalet can sleep between four and six people.

The campsite Huttopia by Lake Aiguebette has had a make-over. With its new swimming pool and direct access to the lake, it is a great place to stay with children. The campsite boasts permanent accommodation as well like the Chalets Alps which have beautiful views of the lake and a 10m2 terrace.

In 1963, Serge and Catherine, who owned a hotel in Champagny-en-Vanoise, opened the first private refuge in the Vanoise National Park, the Refuge de Laisonnay. Today, the refuge is managed by their granddaughter. The refuge is easy to access and is the starting point for several beautiful walks. It has a restaurant serving quality traditional homemade food.

Tree houses

Located between Megève and La Clusaz, Cabanes Entre Terre et Ciel (meaning 'huts between earth and sky') is a fun place to stay and enjoy nature. Choose between three styles of hut:

  • Cabane Nid is built like a nest and has a 30-metre-square roof terrace, which is nine metres high and offers breathtaking views of Mont Blanc.
  • Cabane Mont-Blanc is a luxury tree house with a spa and sauna.
  • Cabane du Ruisseau is the perfect place to stay with children. The hut is accessible via a 12-metre-long rope bridge, and there is a big slide and a play area under the hut.

In the Massif des Aravis, Ecotagnes has three pretty and comfy tree houses. Located at nine metres above the ground, they are accessible via small footbridges. It costs €185 per person per night (half board).

Between Geneva and Annecy, Les Cabanes du Salève offers several luxury wooden huts. La Cabane Perchée Les Pitons is a tree house with a hot tub on its terrace. Les Convers, La Thuile and Les 13 Arbres are three wooden huts built in a Canadian style, all beautifully decorated. La Grotte d'Orjobet is a Finnish Kota, ideal for families. From €160 a night for a hut.

Spend a night in a bubble

At the foot of the Tête de Bostan in Morzine-Avoriaz, Les Bulles des Mines d'Or offers luxury accommodation in two giant bubbles: La Bulle des Haut-Forts and La Bulle du Lac. Surrounded by beautiful alpine nature, guests can spot ibex, marmots and chamois. Each bubble has a bathroom and a terrace and La Bulle du Lac has a Jacuzzi. Breakfast and dinner are served in the bubble or on the terrace. From €170 per night with breakfast for two.

In Chamonix, spend the night in a bubble hung on a tree in the Mottets Forest. The bubble can sleep up to three people. It costs from €55 per person (half board).

The Refuge du Nant du Beurre in Valmorel has a 'Woodbulls'. It is a transparent bubble with a roof that can open. It costs €95 per person per night (half board).

Chalet Mont Blanc in Megève has a luxury bubble. There is also a bubble in Combloux with beautiful views of Mont Blanc.
