San Juan Gourmet Market opened in Palma
San Juan Gastronomic Market has opened in Palma in the emblematic S'Escorxador cultural centre. Following investment of more than two million euros, the market will be open all day, every day throughout the year and offers tapas as well as traditional Spanish market supplies. Visitors to Palma can enjoy 17 food stalls, a cocktail bar, coffee stall and patisserie, terraces and spaces for cooking classes, private tastings and show cookery.

Hotel Garonda opens at Playa de Palma's first five star property
Hotel Garonda has opened after a complete refurbishment as the first five star hotel in Playa de Palma. Located right on the beach but also close to Palma's city centre, Garonda opens its doors offering 149 rooms, divided into 6 different categories, including 30 large junior suites which now feature a Jacuzzi and an outdoor terrace overlooking the sea. The hotel also has a new themed restaurant – Mikel & Pintxo; a tapas bar located on the beach promenade, serving classic tapas, including fresh seafood, Spanish cured meats and a range of Spanish wines.

New design restaurant GP Café opens in Palma
Located in the heart of Palma on Paseo del Borne, GP Café is the first Spanish opening of the Ginza Group, designed by the prestigious Barcelona based interior design company Lazaro Rosa Violan. Blending traditional Spanish features such as low hung fans and woven baskets with clean Scandinavian lines, pendent lamps and marine colours, GP Café creates a comfortable and contemporary space which perfectly reflects its Balearic location.
Serving a mix of tapas, salads, soups and main courses, visitors can expect Mallorcan, Mediterranean and Italian influences with dishes including Iberian cured meats, squid croquettes, gazpacho, risotto with wild mushrooms, and cod with 'tumbet' – a traditional vegetable dish from Mallorca, made of potatoes, aubergines, red bell peppers and olive oil.
GP Café also serves a range of desserts, cakes and coffees including homemade cheesecake with red fruits, GP café special honey cake, brownies and gazpacho of forest fruits all ideal for enjoying on the restaurant's outside terrace.

easyJet to increase its winter schedule to Palma
easyJet has announced that it will be increasing its amount of weekly flights from London Gatwick to Palma this winter by around 30% offering customer low fares on more flights, with double daily flights operating on certain days.
During the summer, easyJet offers around 3000 departures to Palma from a range of regional UK airports offering a quick and convenient way to travel to the Mallorcan capital.
Hugh Laurie films new BBC series in Palma
Well-loved actor, director and musician Hugh Laurie has been filming a new BBC series in Palma, shooting six episodes of The Night Manager directed by Oscar-winning Danish director Susanne Bier. Laurie will play the role of a luxury hotel director in the TV adaptation of a novel by British writer John le Carre, published in 1993. The series tells the story of Johnathan Pino, an ex-soldier who worked by night as the receptionist of a hotel but ends up involved with an intelligence agency. His mission is to gain the trust of Richard Onslow Roper (played by Laurie), suspected to be an arms dealer.
The first scenes were shot in early June at the Bahía Mediterráneo Restaurant. The series is scheduled to air in the UK in 2016.

1 – 8 August: 34 Regatta Copa del Rey. The Regatta Copa del Rey has had 34 editions; it is one of the largest regattas in the Mediterranean and is growing into one of the most prestigious European regattas. The event is part of the 52 Super Series and of the Soto 40 European Tour 2015.

June – September 2015: “El ojo de Miró” ('Miró's Eye'), Es Baluard. The exhibition Miro's Eye by Jean Marie del Moral presents a project in collaboration with Joan Punyet, Miro's grandson. Featuring a pre selection of 33 images showing the objects, materials and tools used by Miro as well as images Jean Marie took of the artist on his visit in 1978. The exhibition is divided between Es Baluard focusing on Son Abrines atelier and the Fundación Pilar I Joan Miró focusing on the Son Boter atelier.
