In summer 2014, LEGOLAND® California Resort in San Diego's North County will open a new LEGO® Legends of Chima Water Park. The new water park is based on the LEGO® Group's new storyline, “Legends of Chima,” based on animal tribes battling in mystical lands for control of a precious energy source. The centerpiece of the new  water park is the Lion Temple Wave Pool, where guests make their way through a LEGO® archway and into an interactive wave pool designed for families with young children.  The LEGO® Legends of Chima Water Park will be included in LEGOLAND®'s general admission.  http://california.legoland.com

In late 2014, the USS Midway Museum, set along San Diego Bay in downtown San Diego, will debut a new 14-minute Voices of Midway multimedia film event in a newly constructed, 90-seat theater on the historic aircraft carrier's hanger deck.  The 14-minute presentation focuses on the young men who sailed into and fought the Japanese Navy--only seven months after Pearl Harbor.  The film blends life-sized holographs, World War II archival footage and reenactments filmed aboard the World War II-era ship.  Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2014, the USS Midway is the most-visited floating ship museum in the world.  www.midway.org

Established in 1870, Horton Plaza Park, located in the center of downtown San Diego next to the popular Horton Plaza shopping complex, is undergoing a major makeover and slated to reopen to the public in late summer 2014. The historic urban park will stretch 1.2 acres and boast an outdoor amphitheater for concerts and other entertainment, and be a site for farmer's markets, book fairs and informal gatherings.  Its iconic fountain, built in 1910, is also being restored to its former glory as a one-of-a-kind water feature of a century ago.  www.civicsd.com
