Menorca, home to spectacular beaches and whitewashed towns, welcomes a whole host of new cultural attractions. From the renowned Hauser & Wirth gallery in Isla del Rey to new local art galleries, Menorca is rising from the shadows of its larger neighbour and showcasing its own identity through new art and culture.
HAUSER & WIRTH MENORCA OPENS WITH MARK BRADFORD EXHIBITION
Hauser & Wirth Menorca is the new art centre which recently opened on the beautiful natural setting of Isla del Rey, an island just off Mahón's harbour. A destination to experience art in connection with education, nature and conservation, the centre's exhibition programme spans ambitious new commissions by gallery artists across all media. Following a conservation project, Hauser & Wirth sensitively repurposed the existing 18th century outbuildings of a naval hospital to create the 1,500 sq.m. art centre. Hauser & Wirth, the gallery which represents over 75 artists and estates around the world, including Hong Kong, Los Angeles and London, has gone beyond the 2020 trend of developing virtual alternatives of the existing exhibitions by launching ArtLab earlier this year, a new technology and research division.

LÔAC, MENORCA'S NEW LOCAL ART GALLERY
Menorca is a valuable showcase of contemporary art and welcomes the recent opening of the LÔAC centre in Alaior. The displays feature an eclectic collection of world-renowned artists such as Joan Miró, Miquel Barceló, Jaume Plensa, Antonio Saura or Antoni Tàpies, that were donated to the City Council for exhibition.
Situated in an emblematic building in the historic centre of Alaior, LÔAC is the only place to hold a public exhibition of a private art collection in Menorca with one of the best displays in the Balearic Islands archipelago. Within the centre, there is a space dedicated exclusively to works by Marina Abramović, a well celebrated artist that pioneered the use of performance as a visual art form. The Abramović Chapel, located in the old church of Gràcio (c/ Coll des Palmer) holds a piece or hers that has never been exhibited publicly that will see the light for the first time in Alaior.
LÔAC can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:30 - 14:00, and from 17:30 - 21:00. The general admission price is 5 euros; however, the Marina Abramović exhibition is free to access between Tuesday and Sunday from 6:00 - 9:00 pm.

NEW HANDICRAFT CENTRE
The Artisanal Centre of Menorca is offering a tantalising range of activities to get to know the island through the work of its artisans. Located in Es Mercadal, in a former military barracks, art enthusiasts will be able to participate in typical Menorcan crafts, as well as guided tours offered in several languages. Its exhibition 'Making Menorca: handicraft yesterday, today and tomorrow' demonstrates how crafts have evolved over time in Menorca and how they are still developing today, reinstating skills that are ingrained in Menorca society. Within the space, visitors can purchase local crafts handmade on the island.
