What's New: Full Moon at the Top of Kilimanjaro

World Expeditions UK

If you think that all trips to Kilimanjaro are the same, World Expeditions' latest addition will ensure that you see Africa's highest mountain in a new light… that of the moon!

Already one of the very few operators to offer the remote, lesser known Northern Circuit route, the adventure travel specialist has now adjusted the departure dates of the trip so that summit day coincides with full moon, making the night climb to the 'top of Africa' much easier and particularly atmospheric.

From September onwards, all 'Kilimanjaro – Remote Northern Route' departures will reach Uhuru Peak, the highest summit on the volcanic crater of Kibo (5,895m), under the glow of the full moon, allowing for spectacular views of the dormant crater and the surrounding glittering glaciers.

The ascent takes one of the least trekked routes, commencing from the western side, traversing the north, then heading to the summit from the east and finally descending via the south. An almost circumnavigation of the mountain, with nine days to acclimatise and encountering limited numbers of fellow trekkers, it is truly remote.

On your way up to the 'top of Africa' you will ascend through multiple ecosystems, including cropland, lush rainforest and alpine desert. In addition to breathtaking moonlit vistas, other highlights of the trip include catching a glimpse of Mount Meru, the topographic centrepiece of Arusha National Park that 'floats' on the thick clouds, as well as enjoying sweeping views across the vast Kenyan lowlands.

FULL MOON AT THE TOP OF AFRICA ON 'KILIMANJARO – REMOTE NORTHERN ROUTE' WITH WORLD EXPEDITIONS: 11 days. Departs monthly year round (first Full Moon departure on 21 September 2015). Joining in Arusha. From £2,350 per person, including accommodation, all meals, transfers, park entrance fees and equipment.

• One of the very first operators in what is now becoming a very popular area in travel, since its inception in 1975 World Expeditions has earned itself an outstanding reputation as a world leader in small group adventure holidays and cultural journeys.
• The two factors that distinguish World Expeditions from its competitors, the number of inclusions and the exceptional value of its trips, can be found today in more than 500 stand-alone itineraries, escorted by expert leaders and meticulously designed for those travellers who want to take the 'paths less travelled'.

In 2013 it launched a dedicated 'World Cycle Journeys' programme, while as of 2011 it is the only company to offer the newly mapped Great Himalaya Trail.
• World Expeditions is independently owned and a truly global company, with nine offices around the world, including London, Sydney and Montreal.
