What's New in California Video Newsletter

Visit California

Visit California's new quarterly video newsletter presents story ideas, travel trends, product updates and more in a fast-paced, news-magazine format. San Francisco-based travel journalist and one of Lonely Planet's top California experts, John Vlahides, presents what's new and generating buzz while delving into the diverse travel and lifestyle experiences awaiting visitors to the Golden State. Videos are available for editorial and promotional use as entire webisodes or individual segments.

The Spring 2013 Video Newsletter was shot on location in San Diego. From seasonal events and activities to travel trends and summer story ideas, this webisode features the following segments:

  • Summer Fun for the Family: California is the ultimate family playground and there are countless ways for the kids to go wild here -- from feeding exotic animals to getting up close and personal with sea creatures, as John does at Sea World San Diego. California's marquee theme parks all have something new on offer, too. These Playground California adventures and many more new family trip ideas are now available on VisitCalifornia.com and in the new edition of the California Road Trips guide.
  • Glamping, California-Style: Glamping is camping with a dose of glamour, allowing glampers to enjoy the great outdoors with all the creature comforts and amenities of a proper hotel. California's glamping roster runs the gamut from yurts and cabins to treehouses and retro-cool Airstream trailers. John test-drives the Roar & Snore glamping experience offered at San Diego Zoo Safari Park and, for the purists out there, recommends some iconic California locations for “traditional” camping in incredible settings.
  • California's Craft Breweries: California's craft-brewing scene is buzzing - hundreds of breweries throughout the state provide visitors plentiful opportunities to tap into local libations. John visits the award-winning Stone Brewing Company in North San Diego County and samples the suds with CEO and Co-Founder Greg Koch. He also highlights a few of the many beer festivals worthy of planning an entire trip around.
  • Liquid Adventures: Surfing is the water sport most often associated with California, but there are many other ways to get out on the water-from white water rafting on the American River and house boating on Shasta Lake to SCUBA diving at Catalina Island and kayaking around the Channel Islands National Park. With a nod to the classic, John heads out to sea with Next Level Sailing on The America, an official Support Boat of the upcoming America's Cup races in San Francisco.
