History, art and culinary culture come to life in Central
Five new self-guided walking trails launched in Central Hong Kong on the 26th of April highlighting the area's heritage, architecture, culture, dining scene and unique lifestyle. The walks are part of a new program, 'Old Town Central', which aims to bring the area's rich culture to the forefront for locals and visitors. The walks cover a neighbourhood bound by Wyndham Street to the east, Caine Road to the south, Possession Street to the west and Queen's Road Central to the north, with Hollywood Road, one of the first roads built in the city, spanning through it. The traveller can choose from a selection of five walks, including Time Traveller, Crazy for Art, Tasting Hong Kong, Treasure Hunt and Something for Everyone. Guides will be distributed at all HKTB Visitor Centres and an online version is available on the HKTB website.
Aussie chef promoting local secrets in Hong Kong's Central
Australia's first Michelin-star chef and owner of Hong Kong's revered Arcane restaurant, Shane Osborn, has offered up a local's perspective on Hong Kong's Central district, highlighting his favourite things to do in the area. Shane has partnered with HKTB to share his top tips as part of the launch of the 'Old Town Central' initiative. HKTB is working with 20 local and international ambassadors to showcase the best local experiences and unique finds in Hong Kong's Central area, covering art, culture, heritage, lifestyle and food. Hong Kong prepares for Summer of fun
To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region, Hong Kong is opening its doors to an exciting summer of events, festivals, tours and special offers. From 1 July to 31 August the city will host special accommodation and dining offers as well as discounts on selected tours across the city. The annual Hong Kong Pulse 3D Light Show will again light up the skyline with exciting audiovisual effects displayed across the Cultural Centre on Victoria Harbour. For more information click here.
Shangri-La's Kerry Hotel now open in Kowloon
Along the shoreline of Hung Hom Bay on Victoria Harbour is the new 16-storey Kerry Hotel, which opened for business on the 28th of April. The property is the fourth Hong Kong hotel for the Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts group, housing 546 rooms, outdoor living spaces, leading restaurants, business and meeting services. A collection of over 1000 art pieces are spread across the property, many from well-known Asian contemporary artists. The hotel is currently offering 20% off the available rate of the day. New boutique hotel in Tai Hang neigbourhood
Little Tai Hang is a newly opened, design centric boutique hotel and serviced apartments in the quaint neighbourhood district of Tai Hang. The hotel opened on the 27th of March and has 91 rooms. Located close to Causeway Bay, the area has recently become a melting pot for locals and curious travellers alike. Rooms start from HK$1500 (approx AU$260) per night. Find out more, click here.
Food trucks hit streets in Hong Kong
Sixteen food trucks have wheeled into Hong Kong serving a grand selection of local Hong Kong street food delights including dragon fruit bowls, pineapple buns, as well as multi-coloured dumplings. The initiative is designed to help a new wave of start-up chefs in Asia achieve their culinary aspirations and reach international audiences, without the worry of excessive set up costs. Record number of Aussies for Dragon Boat Carnival
Hong Kong is gearing up for the International Dragon Boat Races from 2 - 4 June, with a record eight teams from Australian and New Zealand travelling to compete this year. The three day competition will fill Victoria Harbour with heart-pounding action and a profusion of colour as the sound of drummers and fans cheer on paddlers to the finish line.
