Western Australia is a land of wondrous landscapes, ancient stories, dream-like experiences, and incredible food and flavours. It’s a place where you can escape the everyday and reconnect with both yourself and with nature. From fiery ocean sunsets to untouched beaches to wine country and wildflowers, it’s a destination that ticks the box for every kind of adventure and there has never been a better time to visit, with new experiences and attractions that will take your breath away.
From climbing the iconic Matagarup Bridge in Perth to discovering the pristine coastline of Esperance from an aerial perspective, Western Australia has been hard at work developing new experiences so that travellers can enjoy a host of bucket-list-worthy adventures in Australia’s largest and arguably most photogenic State.
Taking to the skies, multi-award winning HeliSpirit in Kununurra, a short three-hour flight from Perth, reopened towards the end of 2021. Offering picturesque helicopter adventures from the Esperance Foreshore, the heli tours showcase the untouched coastline and Middle Island’s surreal bubble-gum pink Lake Hillier. The Esperance landscape is an impressive sight from above and scenic highlights include the Recherche Archipelago, Cape Le Grand and Cape Arid National Parks, including Woody Lake, Frenchman Peak, Lucky Bay, Hellfire Bay, Blue Haven, Twilight Bay and Lake Hillier, Middle Island.
For equally jaw-dropping views, head to the Kalbarri Skywalk, two exhilarating walkways that hang over the Murchison River Gorge in Kalbarri, approximately 100m above the Murchison River and a mere 20 minutes’ drive from Perth. Perched right on the cliff-top, visitors can venture beyond the edge to enjoy spectacular views of the incredible red and white banded sandstone gorge and its surrounding environment. A new addition to the National Park in 2021, travellers can also learn more about traditional ‘Nanda’ heritage and culture through interpretive signage and artwork at Kalbarri Skywalk.
New to the sunny city of Perth, adrenaline junkies can zip into action at the recently launched Matagarup Bridge zip-line. The adventure experience takes around 90 minutes and sits over 35 metres above Perth’s iconic Swan River. Visitors to the capital of Western Australia can also spend the day with GoGo Active Tours, offering bike and kayaking tours in and around Perth to see the sights only locals are privy to. Travellers can participate in a range of tours like the Majestic Foreshore and East Perth Bike Tour where they’ll visit wetlands, iconic buildings, the Optus Stadium precinct and Claisebrook Cove or the Explore Canning River Wetlands Kayak Tour to discover the hidden gems of Perth via water.
Food and wine aficionados can head over to Margaret River, a small town renowned for its craft breweries, exquisite produce, and surrounding wineries. Walk Talk Taste Margaret River is the perfect way to discover the produce, people, places, and secrets that locals love the most. They offer unique regional food experiences - from small group in-town walking tours to luxurious gourmet glamping - sharing only the region's very best produce. Visitors can look forward to being hosted by Kellie Tannock, an experienced journalist, traveller, and foodie, who knows just what Margaret River visitors want and delivers passionately.
Another short trip away from Perth, The Orchard Perth offers private picnics, school holiday events and regular live music and pizza evenings, a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike, offering the chance to explore the orchard, get up close to farm animals and enjoy the fresh country air. The on-site cafe offers refreshments, fresh fruit, freshly squeezed juices and delicious local produce to purchase.
