Walk West Cornwall
Helpful Holidays, the award-winning West Country cottage experts, introduce their Walk West Cornwall 2017 festival from Monday 12th June to Sunday 18th June, following the tremendous success of the 2016 inaugural event. And more great news… series three of Cornwall-based drama Poldark will also air in June, not the autumn as previously advertised, so fans can walk the very same landscape of west Cornwall which Ross and Demelza are wandering.
With 20 coastal, art, historical, foraging and adventure walks to choose from, the family and pet friendly Walk West Cornwall event welcomes everyone to the unique landscape of England's 'toe'. The walks, which range from one mile to eight, are rated from easy to strenuous and most are free of charge. Local experienced guides will introduce walkers to spectacular scenery, fascinating facts and intriguing history – and, as well as being great exercise, some walks incorporate refreshments or a picnic too (even a pit-stop at an award-winning ice cream farm).
The Zen proverb 'If we are facing in the right direction, all we have to do is keep walking' might be brilliant motivation to dust off those boots and take to the great outdoors... but which is the right direction? In Cornwall we're spoiled for choice of stunning walks, both coastal and inland, so where to wander is the quandary for many people.
Walk West Cornwall's choice of revitalising romps and scenic strolls gives everyone the chance to experience hidden Cornwall.
The Helpful Holidays team all live in and love the West Country and are proud to share their special region. By popular demand, many favourite walks from last summer return, plus new walks around The Helford River, St Buryan, Lamorna, Lanyon Mill, St Keverne and Madron, all rich in history, legend and mystery – not to mention breathtaking clifftops and crystal clear seas.
Forage Porthleven, led by expert Vix Hill-Ryder from the Family Foraging Kitchen, will surprise and inspire walkers as they identify, pick and prepare all kinds of unexpected natural foods growing wild. Walk Back in Time will take walkers eight miles across the Lizard headland to the point where Marconi received the first wireless signal, plus a visit to the Lizard Wireless Station.
An informative free evening talk about the fascinating archaeological dig at Lanyon on the Penwith Moors (the densest concentration of prehistoric remains in England) will be a welcome opportunity to rest tired legs. And discover the startling WWII secrets recently revealed in sleepy Lanyon Mill.
Helpful Holidays offer comfortable Cornish cottages of all sizes, the perfect way to relax after the fresh air and healthy exercise and put up your feet at the end of each day.
Available accommodation includes dear little one-bedroom thatched East Barn, and newly converted The Hayloft, accommodating five, both centrally located for all the walk start points. Or for a group of friends walking together, Chy Lowen is a coastal house in west Cornwall with plenty of room for nine. With around 250 cottages in Cornwall sleeping from 2 to 15 guests, Helpful Holidays provide quality, inspected holiday homes to suit all requirements and budgets (www.helpfulholidays.co.uk).
