Head to Cornwall for a cracking Easter is the message coming loud and clear from the far South West of the UK as it gears up for the Easter holidays.
The storms that were characteristic of January and February have been replaced with mild Spring temperatures while spruced-up businesses are re-opening their doors.
Malcolm Bell, Head of Visit Cornwall, comments: “Easter marks a new beginning for Cornwall; the train line is re-opening (on 4 April) and weather damaged businesses are back to their former glory. Easter events and activities are taking place all over Cornwall and we are ready to offer visitors a huge welcome.”
The Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay is amongst the businesses that have been pulling out all the stops to recover in time for Easter. Steve Matchett, says: “Our beachside location means we have a close relationship with Mother Nature and during the storms this relationship was certainly tested. Massive waves were hitting our roof and we had flooding throughout the building. But we've recovered; all our tanks and exhibits are looking good - we're open for business.”
This resilient spirit is echoed by Tom Job from the Watering Hole in Perranporth which almost fell victim to its amazing beachside location: “We are blessed to have rolling surf on our doorstep and whilst over the last few months it has been a little too close for comfort we are privileged to be the UK's only bar on the beach. We've been working around the clock to get ready for Easter and there's a real buzz around here at the moment which we can't wait to share over the holidays.”
Attractions across Cornwall are also joining the Easter celebrations. Those with a sweet tooth can pick from traditional egg hunts at the likes of Paradise Park, Newquay Zoo and Trebah Garden, while the Eden Project is hosting its very own Chocolate Festival designed to feed the mind as well as the tastebuds.
Alongside waist-busting fun there's also family-friendly adventures with both Pendennis Castle and Tintagel Castle offering fearsome tales, dastardly deeds and if-you-dare quests. Brand new toddler rides at Cornwall's Crealy Great Adventure Park add to the excitement, as do the first performances of the year at the famous Minack Theatre.
