Wentworth By the Sea, A Marriott Hotel & Spa Brings 11,500 sq. ft. of Conference Space to Portsmouth NH

Wentworth By the Sea Hotel

Wentworth By the Sea, Marriott Hotel & Conference Center reopened in June 2003 after a $25 million reconstruction. The 161-room grand hotel, restored to its 1874 magnificence and updated to 21st century levels of comfort and technological convenience is the ideal venue for group meetings, executive retreats and social functions ranging from 20 to 140 attendees. With 11,500 s.f. of flexible space, the hotel has incorporated the best of its historic features with state of the art communications and life safety technologies. The original ballroom which welcomed heads of state as well as entertainment headliners such as Cab Calloways Big Band, is now the Grand Ballroom, a 3,034 s.f. venue, accommodating 325 for a reception and up to 240 for banquets.

The main conference facilities are located in the west wing of the hotel and are totally new construction, overlooking the ocean. The 3,948 s.f. Wentworth Ballroom holds 400 for receptions, and 300, seated at banquet rounds.

This ballroom can be divided into three sections that can be configured in various ways. The glassed-in 1,600 s.f. pre-function lobby area offers panoramic water views. Ceiling heights on this level are all 14 feet.

On the Garden Level of the conference wing, a 2,187 s.f. Junior Ballroom accommodates 200 for receptions and has an exterior patio overlooking Portsmouth Harbor. The 517 s.f. Executive Board Room is also located on the Garden Level.

Ceiling heights on the Garden Level are 10 feet. Located in the scenic community of New Castle, NH and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the Wentworth by the Sea Marriott Hotel & Spa incorporates 161 guestrooms and suites (including two bi-level suites and one tri-level suite in the hotels original Victorian turret towers), most with ocean or harbor views.

Twenty-first-century, state-of-the-art construction, design, and amenities are being incorporated to greet the most discerning traveler. Eighteen of the rooms have gas-powered fireplaces and fifteen have balconies. An additional 18 bi-level Little Harbor Marina Suites are located on the waterfront, overlooking the marina. All of the accommodations include such luxuries as radiant heating beneath the marble bathroom floors and telecommunications technology that includes high speed Internet access.

Fodors Magazine named Portsmouth one of the ten most underrated destinations in America and Money magazine put it on its Top ten places to live list. Meeting attendees accustomed to world class destinations will find such diversions as one of the largest collections of historic houses outside of Colonial Williamsburg, 18 miles of classic New England sandy beaches, a championship golf course at which hotel guests have exclusive privileges and outlet shopping all easily accessible via hotel transportation.

Portsmouth is easily reached by car, train and air. Just an hour north of Boston, travelers can fly to Logan International and head up I-95 in a rental car, or fly to Manchester (NH) International Airport, one of the fastest growing airports in the nation and just 45 miles west of the Seacoast. Some scheduled air even flies directly to the former Air Force base, Pease International. Amtrak passengers can take the Downeaster from Boston, stop in Exeter or Durham NH and be enjoying ocean views at the hotels dockside restaurant by lunch.

When seasoned journalists from publications as diverse as Money, The UTNE Reader, Cosmopolitan and Fodors are all recommending the New Hampshire Seacoast as an undiscovered gem, we expect that meeting planners will be looking at the hotel as the next big place, said Tom Varley, Vice President for Ocean Properties, the owner and operator of Wentworth By the Sea. Our restoration has ensured that Wentworth By the Sea is indeed a fabulous hotel; but planners owe it to their attendees to come see why the Seacoast/Portsmouth is receiving such great notices as a destination. Portsmouth is known as the City of the Open Door. We look forward to providing the hospitality to welcome everyone who comes through that door.
