Want to help rebuild a local school? Clean up local parks? Take care of vulnerable animals? Leading youth accommodation provider, Clink Hostels, is offering a free stay to travellers who volunteer for a local charity.
The pledge - which is part of Clink's 'Shut up and Listen' campaign - is designed to make a real difference to local communities by offering a free bed to travellers keen to volunteer for key social causes.
The charities that Clink have partnered with include Amsterdam-based Taste Before You Waste, an initiative focused on the prevention of food waste and 10,000 HOURS, a foundation creating a movement for social change through organising events for the most vulnerable people of our society. Travellers are also able to suggest a cause they are personally passionate about to volunteer with, too.
As well as complimentary accommodation for their efforts, volunteers can benefit from Clink's partnerships with local companies to receive various freebies and discounts.
The move follows a recent survey conducted by the brand which found that 86% of 18-39-year-old travellers believe companies should do more to challenge current social, political and environmental issues.
The survey - which had over 700 respondents from 36 countries - inspired Clink to step up and commit to making a positive impact in the world.
Mark Fenelon, CEO said:
“The crisis over the past year has made people think about what is truly of value in life and the issues that matter the most to them. Businesses can no longer sit on the sidelines because that is part of the problem - we want to be part of the solution and contribute to creating real and powerful change.
“Our guests are clearly asking companies to have purpose as well as profit, and to move beyond faceless donations and self-servicing promotion - so, we have shut up and listened.
“There is a whole generation out there, with passionate beliefs and a strong moral compass. They want to travel, but they also want to give back to their communities and the destinations they travel to. We are here to help and support a generation that is facing some of the worst fall-out from this pandemic.
The campaign - which was recently nominated for Wyse Travel Confederation's Global Youth Travel Award for Notable Innovation - will run through 2021.
The message to travellers out there is: immerse yourself in a cause you care about, and Clink will put you up for free - simple!
