Visit Winchester

Winchester has held the title of 'happiest place to live in the UK'* and it is certainly a cheery place to visit. This vibrant city often feels more like a village thanks to its friendly and welcoming community.

Now a group of Ambassadors has assembled to help visitors find their happy place. These passionate Wintonians will be sharing insights and tips of how to experience England's ancient capital like a local.

The group represents the members of Discover Winchester- a consortium of visitor attractions and hospitality business across the district. They are joined by other local enthusiasts and influencers. Each Ambassador was chosen to represent different areas of interest. They cover everything from heritage and culture through to accessibility and sustainability.

The group has put together a plan to highlight different areas and attractions across the Winchester district over the next year. They will highlight new openings, places for all budgets and trips for all types of visitors and locals. They will contribute to a regular blog on the Visit Winchester website. Winchester Ambassadors will assist in media stories and press trips.

Winchester-based PR director Miranda Rocksmith is chairing the group. Reflecting on the first meeting where some of the new ambassadors came together, she said “the room was filled with so much passion and enthusiasm. This group of locals is really looking forward to working together and sharing their lived experiences of our beautiful city and district.”

Hampshire Cultural Trust trustee Louise West said: “I am keen to be a Winchester Ambassador. I want everyone to know how much our town has to offer in terms of cultural gems, some obvious, but others little jewels in unexpected places.”

Emma Raphael is the Food & Drink Ambassador. She said  “I think we are so lucky in this district when it comes to great food. We have so many brilliant local food producers who are passionate about what they do, and many wonderful restaurants, pubs, cafes and bars on our doorstep. I love introducing people to them.”

Cllr Lucille Thompson, Winchester City Council's Cabinet Member for Business and Culture, comments: Winchester is a city that people feel so passionately about – it's wonderful that we are able to work with local businesses and a group of ambassadors who are proud to be living, working and enjoying the district they live in – it speaks volumes about the special place that Winchester and the district is. The local knowledge this group will share will help visitors plan and enjoy fulfilling and memorable trips – a benefit for all the businesses and attractions in our welcoming city, market towns and rural areas.”
