QR

Enjoying an extended break in Queensland has never been easier thanks to QRs Traveltrain Holidays flexible Wanderer and Stopover passes.

The Wanderer rail pass provides six months of unlimited one-way travel, in economy seating, on Queenslands coastal trains with departures from Brisbane or Cairns. In comparison, the Stopover Fare lets travellers choose to stop once, twice or three times in four weeks when travelling on QRs Tilt Train business service.

QRs General Manager of Marketing and Sales Wayne Carlson said both passes was ideally suited to retirees looking for an extended holiday experience and to backpackers, who often spent up to a month travelling through Queensland each year.

Rail is an incredibly popular and convenient form of travel with travellers from all walks of life. They love the experience, the countryside and the general comfort of the train, he said.

Visitors to Queensland also want to experience the out of the way places like Giru, just south of Townsville, where they can throw in a fishing line with the locals, or Yandina, where they can enjoy a coldie and a bit of history at the old Railway Hotel , he said. Both The Wanderer and Stopover Fares deliver on experience.

The Wanderer, priced at $266.20, gives travellers the ability to stop and stay at up to 28 coastal destinations between Brisbane and Cairns over a six month period. Pass holders also receive up to 50% discounts for return journeys on any of the Queenslands Outback rail services.

Stopover Fares allow travellers short on time to take advantage of the Tilt Train services and break their journey up to four times (including the final stop) over a 28 day period. Prices vary according to the number of stops, but travellers have the flexibility to choose the Queensland spots that most appeal.

Currently just 16 per cent of backpackers currently use rail to travel around the state, Mr Carlson said.

Were confident the introduction of affordable passes, combined with a relaxing rail journey and the chance to meet real Queenslanders aboard, will really open up Queensland and its emerging regional centres.
