Wandell Wins Ultimate Job In Golf

Your Golf Travel

A sweetly struck seven iron saw Chris Wandell win Your Golf Travel.coms Ultimate Job in Golf, completing a dramatic comeback for the London Business School graduate.

More than 8,000 candidates applied for the 12-month, 50,000 dream job, and after several rounds of interviews 11-handicapper Wandell was one of 20 to reach the grand final an 18-hole Stableford competition on Celtic Manors Twenty Ten Course, the venue for this years Ryder Cup.

The 31-year-old American had trailed by six Stableford points before scoring an impressive 11 points on the last four holes to take his total to 36 and force a two-way play-off.

After replaying the par-five 18th the competitors were still inseparable and with darkness drawing in it came down to a nearest-the-pin contest form 150 yards one shot, one job.

Wandells effort landed within 12ft of the flag to win the competition, a replica claret jug and a year playing golf on some of the worlds finest courses.

After he finalises his travel itinerary and gets his round-the-world airfare, the first official engagement for Your Golf Travel.coms new global product development manager will be at the US Masters, in April, followed by rounds at Pebble Beach, Sawgrass, St Andrews and several other championship venues.

Wandell will travel thousands of miles and play hundreds of holes writing reviews and negotiating rates to give the companys customers the best value, feedback and experiences on their golfing holidays.

After winning, a delighted Wandell said: I was astonished to have made it through the 8,000 applicants and am now overwhelmed to have won the dream job.

I never thought Id have the opportunity to travel around the world playing the best courses on the planet.

It was a bit like Watson and Nicklaus duel in the sun out there, but just in the dark!

Your Golf Travel.com chief executive Ross Marshall added: This was the warm-up act for a much bigger international event being hosted here in October but we certainly had a dramatic finish to our inaugural competition.

I would like to congratulate Chris on his brave fight back, and for holding his nerve on the day to claim the ultimate job and the trophy.

We would also like to extend our thanks to the staff and management of the Celtic Manor for their excellent hospitality and for supporting this exciting concept. This is a fantastic resort for all golfers to visit and we wish them the best for the Ryder Cup in October.
