Walk the Weekend Away

Sydney Coast Walks

Sydney-siders can now combine their love of the outdoors with the best creature comforts on a unique weekend escape hiking the harbour’s coastline and staying at Q Station, Manly.

Award winning walking tour company Sydney Coast Walks offers a two-day guided 30km hike of Sydney Harbour National Park from The Spit to Manly and North Head that includes hotel accommodation at the converted original Quarantine Station.

Meeting at Circular Quay, the first day begins with an exclusive private water taxi whisking guests across Sydney Harbour to The Spit Bridge. Discover the contrasts of the city as hikers walk past Middle Harbour’s multi-million dollar waterfront homes before leaving the city behind in the natural bushland of Dobroyd Head. The day’s highlights include aboriginal engravings and sandy harbour beaches before reaching Manly’s thriving surfside culture.

The four-star accommodation of Q Station makes this hike perfect for year-round walking, with a hot shower and freshly made bed waiting for guest’s arrival. Recharge with a gourmet meal and glass of wine in the Boilerhouse Restaurant. Luggage transfers are included so guests can simply enjoy the spectacular harbour vistas on offer from every turn of the track.

A Sunday morning buffet breakfast awaits hikers before exploring the history of Manly’s Q Station. Setting off from Q, guests discover the protected sanctuary of North Head, it’s former artillery base and enjoy views out to the Pacific Ocean and across to South Head from Fairfax Lookout. From June to November, whales can be seen migrating from some of the best land-based vantage points atop craggy sandstone cliffs. The weekend is topped off with a return trip across the Harbour on an iconic Manly ferry.

It’s the best way to escape for the weekend yet still enjoy the finer things Sydney has to offer. Says Sydney Coast Walks founder, Ian Wells, “Most visitors – and even some locals - don’t realize how much of the city’s coastline can be explored on foot. It’s still possible to be one of the few people out on the track on any given day”.
