Parks Victoria

Walk Victoria's Icons to experience the state's spectacular coasts, rugged mountain peaks and everything in between. These long-distance walks have been designed to give you an unforgettable journey through some of Victoria's most remote and pristine wilderness.

You can see nature up close and clear your mind as you spot a rare orchid, watch a sea eagle dive into the water or view spectacular scenery stretching to the horizon.

Grampians Peaks Trail

The Grampians Peaks Trail is one of the newest long distance trails to be developed in Victoria and offers a journey through dramatic mountain peaks, ancient rock features and stunning rugged landscapes.

The first section is now open and features the Bugiga Hiker Camp that has been designed by multi-award winning Melbourne architects Sean Godsell Architects Pty Ltd. The campsite is situated in the Wonderland Range with panoramic views right across the mountain ranges.

The group shelter is an exciting example of the latest sustainable camping design with a timber and oxidised steel structure that “dissolves” back into the environment. There are also 12 two-person camping platforms that have been positioned to take advantage of the magnificent surrounding views.

The first 36km 3 day/2night section that departs from Halls Gap is now complete and once finalised, the entire trail will offer a 13 day/12 night, 144km walk.

Great Ocean Walk

The Great Ocean Walk is a one-way long distance walk showcasing Victoria's stunning west coastline that is home to the renowned Twelve Apostles. Stretching just more than 100km between Apollo Bay and the Twelve Apostles near Princetown, the walk weaves through national parks featuring tall forests, coastal heathlands, wild rocky shores, river estuaries and windswept cliff-tops.

You can step on and off the trail with convenience; enjoy comfortable accommodation and excellent local meals or pitch your tent at wildly picturesque campgrounds along the way.

Great Ocean Walk stories brought to life

To bring the rich stories of the walk alive, a collection of 68 individual audio tours has been developed. Tours include a daily walk overview, key walk features, preparation and camp etiquette, flora and fauna and history and heritage. Available in English, German, Japanese and Korean.

Falls to Hotham Alpine Crossing

A visit to Victoria's Alpine National Park is guaranteed to clear your mind and feed your soul.

The Falls to Hotham Alpine Crossing is a 37km 3 day/2 night walk featuring spectacular views at every step. The trail winds along stunning alpine ridges and features snow gum woodlands, sprawling grassy plains, rocky summits and historic huts. In spring, hikers will enjoy the colourful and abundant wildflowers.

The Falls to Hotham Alpine Crossing immerses visitors in the alpine environment, with its gnarled snow gums and fields of alpine daisies, surrounded by high country scenery, passing by heritage huts and walking to the summits of some of Victoria's most spectacular peaks.

A new master plan which proposes a new route for the Falls to Hotham Alpine Crossing has been developed to guide future upgrades of the trail including the best route for the Alpine Crossing and upgrades for supporting infrastructure needed to enhance this world-class walk. The new route will take in the steep and challenging Diamantina Spur to provide walkers with access to the spectacular scenery from the summit of Mount Feathertop.
