VisitTemecula.org Shares 11 Compelling Reasons for Golfers to Stay and Experience Temecula Valley Wine Country Golf Trail

Visit Temecula Valley

Temecula Valley is Southern California Golf and Wine Country. Seven great courses with elevation changes and expansive views plus attractive golf-and-lodging packages at four local resorts and hotels equal 11 compelling reasons why golfers stay and play in Temecula Valley.

“South of Pebble Beach, north of Torrey Pines, and west of La Quinta, Temecula Wine Country Golf Trail is a burgeoning golf destination. Among 11 Reasons why golfers-in-the-know celebrate the game here are 7 excellently designed courses and 4 local resorts and hotels with appealing golf-and-lodging packages,” announced Kimberly Adams, Temecula Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau president and CEO. “At Journey at Pechanga, Temecula Creek, CrossCreek, RedHawk, Legends, Rancho California and Pala Mesa, golfers seize the day with expansive views, dramatic elevation changes, and tournaments on courses embraced by nature. Extended-stay and vacation-worthy play makes midweek an especially attractive value with better-than-weekend (Sunday-through-Thursday) resort-and-hotel nightly- and group rates.” Located 1-hour from San Diego, Orange County, and Palm Springs; and 1½ hours from Los Angeles and Hollywood, the popular destination includes Downtown Old Town Temecula; Temecula Valley Southern California Wine Country; and Pechanga Resort & Casino.

1-Journey at Pechanga

Designed by Arthur
Hills and Steve Forest, and with “some of the most dramatically plunging tee shots ever seen,” the 18-hole championship Journey at Pechanga course is ranked as one of California’s greatest courses by publications including GOLF Magazine and GolfWeek. Journey’s signature, par-four, hole 6 features the largest elevation drop on a California course: 175-feet from tee to fairway, and another 100-feet to the green. Journey traverses rolling terrain between Pechanga Creek and the adjacent mountainside, and weaves its way through stands of mature California live oaks. With stunning vistas of the Temecula Valley and the surrounding mountains, and golf carts equipped with state-of-the-art GPS systems, Journey is called an “unforgettable romp.” The Journey Clubhouse is
one of Southern California’s finest with Journey’s End restaurant and the award-winning Pechanga Pro Shop.

2-Temecula Creek Inn Golf Course

With course designs by Ted Robinson Sr., and Dick Rossen, and surrounded by 300+ acres of rustic, natural beauty adjacent the Rainbow Gap, Temecula Creek Inn is Temecula Valley Southern California Wine Country’s original prestigious golf resort. Three distinctive nines provide golf warriors 27 holes of championship golf. The
Stonehouse nine with its dramatic elevation changes is Temecula Valley’s most challenging course; it requires precise tee shots, shot shaping and distance control. The Oaks course is more traditional, fun, and memorable, with forgiving, oak-lined fairways and immaculate greens. The Creek course’s open layout with direct approaches gives golfers the best chance to score. The resort’s Temet Grill restaurant features Temecula Valley wines and California cuisine – creative dishes as well as classics.

3-CrossCreek Golf Club

Touting the Arthur Hills-designed CrossCreek Golf Club for its scenery and solitude, Golf Digest bestowed the course 4½-stars in its Best Places to Play guide. CrossCreek’s 18 picturesque holes amidst age-old oaks and sycamore trees are located in the secluded, natural hills west of the hip-and-historic, Old Town Temecula dining-shopping-entertainment district. The first five holes border Sycamore Creek; holes six-to-nine are on open, rolling land with panoramic views; and the back nine climbs into higher ground. The signature hole 17 is among the most dynamic water holes; the downhill, par-three crosses a creek to an elevated green. An excellent value, CrossCreek offers plenty of variety and challenge for golfers of all aptitudes.

4-RedHawk Golf Club

The gentle contours of the Ron Fream-designed RedHawk Golf Club course are described as “tricky and beautiful,” “challenging yet fair,” and a “must-play.” With elevation changes, and an abundance of water and bunkering, RedHawk is rated 7th best among California’s public courses by Golf Today. Its signature, par-three, hole 8 features one of the only island greens in Southern California.

5-The Legends Golf Club

Originally a Ted Robinson design, The Legends Golf Club course was updated by P. Dye, and is described as “impressive, challenging fun,” and “a good value.” Appealing to golfers of all skill-levels are Legends’ rolling topography, five lakes, numerous doglegs, and challenging greens.

6-The Golf Club at Rancho California

Designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones, Sr., The Golf Club at Rancho California course was formerly known as SCGA Members Golf Course, and host to SCGA championships, and qualifying events for USGA, SCGA, and PGA tournaments. The championship Rancho California layout hosts some very picturesque holes and elevated tees,
and features hilly terrain, wide fairways, strategic bunkering, and large landing areas. Among the most interesting holes on the course is the par-four, hole 3; a great view combines with elevated tees, a drop of 100+ feet to the
fairway, and the challenge of trees left and water right.

7-Pala Mesa Golf Course

Scenic hillsides and rolling fairways are the setting of the California ranch-style Pala Mesa golf course designed by Dick Rossen. Tree-lined fairways feature towering oaks, pines, sycamores, and elms; mountain views provide the backdrop. Highly rated by Golf Digest and PGA professionals, and meticulously maintained, Pala Mesa is one of Southern California’s most challenging courses. The seemingly narrower front nine requires accuracy on every shot; the back nine with dramatic elevation changes and visually wider fairways is gentler and more scenic.

8-Journey to Golf package at Pechanga Resort

Four Diamond accommodations and a round of golf on Journey at Pechanga comprise the “Journey to Golf” package at Pechanga Resort & Casino. With an architectural style reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright, Pechanga Resort offers hotel guests AAA Four Diamond comfort and amenities, knowledgeable concierge service, valet parking, 24-hour room service, use of the fully equipped health club, and seasonal pool and sundeck with private cabanas. The resort also includes nine great places to eat including three gourmet restaurants (Great Oak steakhouse, Seafood Grotto, and Paisano’s); and Spa Pechanga in a tranquil setting on the third floor of the hotel tower. The Pechanga Casino has an elegantly appointed High Limit Gaming area, the Pechanga Poker Room, and 200,000 square-foot gaming floor with 3,000+ slot and video machines, and 130+ table games.

9-Play and Stay packages at Temecula Creek Inn Resort

Temecula Creek Inn Resort’s most popular signature golf package is “Stay and Unlimited Play” that includes overnight accommodations and unlimited golf for two. Also offered is “Play a Round and Stay Around” with accommodations and a round of golf for two. Secluded and tranquil, Temecula Creek Inn Resort features spacious,
contemporary guestrooms with plush bedding, comfortable lounge chairs, and private patios or balconies. The resort also includes Temet Grill restaurant with expansive views of the golf course and the San Jacinto Mountains. Temet Grill atmosphere is casually elegant; fare includes creative dishes and classics.

10-Golfer’s Getaway package at Embassy Suites

Eighteen holes of golf including a cart and driving range passes at CrossCreek Golf Club; and a two-room hotel suite with complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast are included with the “Golfer’s Getaway” package at Embassy Suites Temecula Valley Wine Country. Guest suites were recently renovated and upgraded with new carpeting, bedding, and high-definition 37-inch flat-panel TVs. The expansive outdoor area features a salt-water swimming pool; and the hotel boasts the new Sweet Spot Sports Bar and Grille.

11-Golf package at Holiday Inn Express

Tee times for two at CrossCreek Golf Club or The Legends Golf Club, and overnight accommodations with full, hot breakfast are included with the “Golf” package at Holiday Inn Express Temecula. Located along Temecula Hotel Row in the Uptown Temecula district, the lodging establishment receives accolades for extra efforts to appoint guestrooms with comfort in mind, and for contemporary accommodations at a good value.
