Homecoming2009

A spectacular calendar of events will mark Scotland's first-ever Homecoming year. Whether you're a Scot, of Scottish descent, or simply love Scotland, you're invited to the party! Homecoming Scotland 2009 will celebrate some of Scotland's great contributions to the world with a year-long, country-wide programme of exciting and inspirational events and activities. The festivities will kick off on January 25th, the 250th birthday of one of Scotland's most famous sons, the national poet, Robert Burns and until St Andrew's Day (November 30th) you'll be spoilt for choice with a fantastic array of things to see and do.

VisitScotland Adventure Pass

VisitScotland has made it easier for budget-savvy holidaymakers to try out new activities with the launch of the first ever Scotland-wide Adventure Pass. The free pass offers discounts and special offers on 50 adventure activities, wildlife and sightseeing tours throughout the country to help visitors make the most of Scotland�s glorious outdoors.

The pass is valid from 1 September until 31 May 2009 and covers a wide range of activities such as guided walks, bike hire, wildlife watching and adventure sports.

Cold Water Classic Series 2009

2009 will see the only European leg of O�Neill�s Cold Water Classic surfing series arrive in Scotland. The O�Neill Highland Open will be incorporated into the series which will see surfers compete for a prize purse of US$725,000. The Highland Open is the most northern of the series which also includes the most southern, most classic, the coldest and the wildest.

To mark the start of the White campaign VisitScotland has teamed up with some of Scotland's finest hotels, guest houses, B&B's and self catering accommodation providers to offer some fantastic winter white accommodation offers and enable you to discover white nights, sumptuous white delights, enthralling white sights and unmissable white flights.

From the white snow-capped Cairngorm mountains to the crashing white waters of Corryvreckan whirlpool, there are so many winter white things to see and do in Scotland. Aberdeen City & Shire

As part of a schedule of events planned for Homecoming, the North East Clan Fortnight 2009 will coincide with The Gathering in Edinburgh from 18th July to 3rd August next year, and will showcase Scotland�s clan ancestral homelands, history and tradition. Apex Hotels

The Apex City Hotel, in Edinburgh�s popular Grassmarket area of town, has relaunched Agua Restaurant and Bar as a seafood restaurant, while Apex will also soon open a brand new hotel in Edinburgh�s city centre.

Edinburgh Woolen Mill

Edinburgh Woolen Mill has invested millions of pounds over the last five years upgrading its facilities to match the expectations of today�s visitors. They have improved the look and layout of the stores in order to offer the best possible shopping experience for passengers. Several of the stores have been re-vamped to offer a shop within a shop experience with areas featuring leading designer brands, while Costa Coffee has been introduced to the entire network.

Festival Inns

Festival Inns is investing �1.5 million over the next two years in key hotel properties, including the Murrayfield Hotel & Lodge and Royal Ettrick Hotel, both in Edinburgh�s western suburbs.

Historic Scotland

To coincide with Scotland�s Homecoming celebrations during 2009, Historic Scotland, The National Trust for Scotland and many of the country�s privately-owned historic houses have joined forces to create a special Homecoming pass that will encourage and enable overseas visitors to explore and enjoy over 500 of the most important Scottish heritage attractions.

JAC Travel Scotland Ltd

Privately-owned tour operator, JAC Travel Scotland, has launched a new bespoke travel service � �Jewels of Scotland�.

Aimed at the premier end of the travel trade market, Jewels of Scotland provides tailor-made itineraries for discerning travellers seeking authentic experiences in Scotland. This is suited for individual travellers, small groups and golfing parties.

McKever Hotels

The Highland Way Hotel at Balmaha, set on one of Scotland�s most well-known lochs, Loch Lomond, and part of the West Highland Way, and is to undergo a �4 million transformation including new lodges and a cottage.

The project is scheduled for completion in Easter 2009 with development of 13 two and three bedroom lodges and the cottage, all with luxurious interiors. In addition, a new restaurant will be built with stunning views of the loch, a bar and a banqueting suite suitable for a variety of functions, including weddings.

Northlink

NorthLink Ferries will launch its 2010 Group Tours Guide at World Travel Market in November, predicting significantly increased levels of tourism business in 2009 with forward bookings already looking set to overhaul the record levels for The Orkney and Shetland holiday experience.

Speyside Cooperage Visitor Centre

Speyside Cooperage celebrated its 60th anniversary this year and was recently featured in a double page spread in the Canadian publication, Food & Beverage Magazine.

Strathmore Hotels

The Salutation Hotel in Perth has recently been awarded a healthyliving award from the Scottish Consumer Council, while Strathmore�s Ben Nevis Hotel & Leisure Club has completed the latest stage of their ongoing 3 year refurbishment programme.
