Local BAFTA award-winning film maker Rob Whitworth has gifted his work and time in the form of a flow motion video - a title his dad came up with - of Norwich, to promote the city as an exciting destination to visit domestically and internationally. Working in collaboration with leading attraction Norwich Cathedral and destination marketing organisation VisitNorwich, it is planned the video will attract millions of views across digital platforms converting clicks into new visits to the city.
Rob's flow motion films are extraordinary, the idea being that he creates a single take in which the camera assumes the role of a character exploring a location in an impossible perspective. His film about Norwich will be his first UK short online film, and both the Cathedral and VisitNorwich are immensely proud to be working in partnership with Rob to tell the world a story about Norwich, the city of stories in a unique and visually exciting way.
Rob's new film is certain to capture the imaginations of discerning travellers and those interested in holidaying in the country they live in. With funding from Norwich Business Improvement District (BID), VisitNorwich is launching a targeted digital destination campaign to share Rob's film and other Norwich, the city of stories content, to inspire and attract more visitors to come and spend a day visit, short-break or longer stay in Norwich. The four month digital campaign across YouTube, Google, Instagram and Facebook will primarily reach London households. These households will be a mix of adults and families interested in UK city breaks and day visits with interests in top attractions, great shopping, fun things to do and local food and drink, as well as those with a strong interest in culture.
Nick Bond, Head of Tourism at VisitNorwich said, “Rob has produced a stunning film. We're so fortunate to be amongst a partnership of the willing - benefiting from Rob's unique skills, the Cathedral's initiative in commissioning the work, NBID campaign investment and our agency Fountain's digital marketing expertise, we are going show a lot of people in London some very appealing pictures of Norwich.”
Rob Whitworth, at the age of 35, is a truly accomplished British photographer and urban film maker working with high profile clients from around the world. Having graduated from Norwich School of Art & Design (now Norwich University of the Arts), Rob has won numerous awards, the latest being a TV Craft BAFTA for his sequences in Planet Earth II for the BBC Natural History Unit.
Rob's best known for work in hyperlapse and time-lapse photography and has received over 9 million views on his Vimeo channel. Norwich will be joining an impressive list of featured international destinations which includes: Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai, Barcelona, Pyongyang, Dubai, Sydney, Istanbul and Singapore. Nearly all have received well in excess of a million online views.
Rob said “Norwich is a beautiful city with so much history. I've had a great time exploring and filming some of the sights during this project, experiencing some of the best views of Norwich with the aim of capturing them in the best light. When you live somewhere it's easy to not appreciate it, so it was cool to see a familiar place with fresh eyes.”
