Zurichs iconic city resort, the newly reopened Dolder Grand, pays tribute to legends of European art and music with its premium suites, following a multi-million dollar renovation.
Individually styled by London-based United Designers, the hotels four Top Suites were inspired by world famous celebrity guests who have stayed at the hotel.
Conductor Herbert von Karajan, Swiss artist and sculptor Alberto Giacometti, actress and wife of Federico Fellini, Giulietta Masina, and The Rolling Stones are all immortalized in the interior design of the suites, which are priced from 5,200 to 14,000 Swiss francs a night.
Inspired by maestro Herbert von Karajan, the Maestro Suite is influenced by classical music and architecture. Atop the tower of the Dolder Grands historic main building, the extraordinary two-tier, 400 square metre suite has two bedrooms, each with its own marble bathroom (Bianco Oro und Portoro) with whirlpool and steam shower. One also features a sauna.
With a library, a circular dining room and the living room on the upper floor of the tower in the restored dark red timberwork spire, complete with bar and fireplace, and with the atmosphere of a (rather country club style). A large terrace is the Dolder Grands highest viewpoint, with breathtaking views of Zurich, the lake and the Swiss Alps.
The supremely elegant Carezza Suite, inspired by Alberto Giacometti, is located on the top floor of the new Spa Wing, with ceiling-to-floor windows creating an almost limitless sensation of space. Another highlight is the terrace, surrounding the entire suite, with a sweeping panorama of downtown Zurich, the lake and Swiss Alps.
An outstanding feature of the 230 square metre suite is sculpturally inspired fittings and furnishings. All the furniture and lighting is organic in shape, suggestive of works of art.
Each of the two bedrooms has a bright marble bathroom (Bianco Lasa Vena Oro), with whirlpool and steam shower. One also features a sauna. A quiet zone avant garde TV lounge, spacious living room and dining area with en suite kitchen, complete the suites interiors.
Reflecting the glamour of the world of cinema in the 1950s, the Masina Suite, inspired by Giulietta Masina, occupies 170 square metres also on the top floor of the new Spa Wing with distinctive Italian interiors: dark green marble bathrooms (Verde Guatemala) (one with a sauna, steam shower and whirlpool), light-coloured Fendi sofa in the spacious living room with large flat-screen TV, ideal for watching movies, and a billiard table.
The dining area has an en suite kitchen and views through ceiling-to-floor windows are extended from a terrace overlooking high treetops and the lake below.
Suite 100 was inspired by the Rolling Stones nightspot, The 100 Club in London. As the personification of rock and roll at its best, the 170 square metre suite is an expression of unconventional extravagance, according to the designers.
The mood is set by distinctive retro-style furniture and a predominantly black and deep pink dcor redolent of the Swinging Sixties. The living room is furnished with corner sofas and pink loungers.
With one bedroom and bathroom with whirlpool, sauna and steam shower, another of the suites special features is a meeting room accommodating ten. Ceiling-to-floor windows and a terrace overlook the historic main building and lake.
