The Channel Island of Guernsey will be firmly in the limelight from Friday 20 April, with the release of 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society' in cinemas nationwide.
With a stellar cast including Lily James, Michiel Huisman, Penelope Wilton, Sir Tom Courtenay, Jessica Brown Findlay, Matthew Goode and Glen Powell, the film is an adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same name and is directed by the legendary Mike Newell (known for 'Four Weddings and A Funeral' and 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire').
Set in 1946, the story follows free-spirited journalist Juliet Ashton (played by James) who travels to Guernsey to find out more about the curiously named book club, formed during the German occupation of the Channel Islands in the Second World War. Charmed by the island and inspired by the unlikely group of friends, Juliet extends her stay on Guernsey as she begins to unravel what happened during the difficult years under German rule.
The film uncovers the fascinating history of Guernsey during the Second World War, its subsequent liberation and the resilience of the islanders over that time. As with the book, VisitGuernsey is looking forward to reaching new audiences through the film and welcoming visitors to experience how the island inspired the producers to put the novel on the big screen.
