VisitEngland reveals Travel Article of the Year winners
VisitEngland is pleased to announce the results of its Travel Article of the Year 2017 award. The winners can now be revealed as:
GOLD: Safi Thind, Escapism Magazine – 'The End of the Road: walking coast to coast in England'
SILVER: Hannah Summers, The Guardian – 'Ales of the riverbank: a pub crawl of Norwich by canoe'
BRONZE: Ellie Ross, The Independent – 'Explore the Lake District's quiet corners by bike on the new Lakes and Dales loop'
The annual award recognises the important contribution that the media makes in encouraging and shaping domestic tourism. Entry criteria was for submissions of articles of 500 words or more, or a TV or radio feature of more than two minutes published or broadcast in 2016, that inspire domestic travel in England.
The 100+ entries truly showcased the breadth and diversity of world-class travel experiences in England, from pub crawling via canoe to breath-taking trekking and cycling experiences that are pure bucket list material.
As VisitEngland celebrates its Year of Literary Heroes, it is fitting that Norwich, the first of just two UNESCO Cities of Literature in England and self-proclaimed City of Stories', has provided a prize for the Gold Winner of a two-night stay at the historic Maids Head Hotel, said to be the oldest hotel in Britain, together with attraction passes courtesy of Visit Norwich.
Silver and Bronze winners will each receive an annual National Trust pass.
