Multicultural Mississippi

Although Mississippi embraces many southern traditions, there are opportunities around every corner to experience and embrace cultural traditions and history from around the world.

African-American history is celebrated across the state, from driving tours to historic landmarks to black history museums, an entire vacation or group trip can be planned around some of the nation's most culturally significant landmarks. Native American heritage is another strong focus across Mississippi. Though many people are familiar with places throughout our state that hold Native American names — including Yalobusha, Itawamba and Mississippi itself — few realize just how many native peoples made their home in our state. The Chinese community's presence throughout the state has grown tremendously over the last several years. The Chinese Spring Festival of 2015, held Feb. 28, will be the first cultural event hosted jointly by Jackson Chinese community and the City of Jackson to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year that is also known as the Chinese Spring festival.
