Take a seat at the farm table dinner, grab a hold of the grain, get your hands dirty picking the day's harvest and get into the kitchen and start putting together a local menu that will make everyone envious. Visit Mesa has partnered with DETOURS of the West and has launched the Fresh Foodie Trail® tour, a guided, food-inspired road trip that connects many of the culinary-themed attractions in Arizona's third-largest city. This ultimate foodie road trip is an experience that invites visitors to learn why local food is best, and why their food choices matter.
Visit Mesa's Fresh Foodie Trail® is fast-becoming an in-demand offering for visitors in the Southwest. “It is education-plus-experience that makes these foodie stops memorable – and popular!,” said Kimberly Freer, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Visit Mesa. The Fresh Foodie Trail® features nearly a dozen locations and features them all in the Arizona Agritourism Guide (available for download) that highlights Mesa's treasured heritage of family farming. The guide maps out each of the attractions and highlights the region's farmers markets, food truck events, and includes a dining section with restaurants that feature locally-grown items on their menus. Serving as a culinary gateway to Greater Phoenix, the neighboring farms in and around Mesa are providing a bounty of seasonal goods for visitors to enjoy year-round. Citrus in January, peaches in May, olives in October and even, heirloom wheat all winter. Travelers can time their visits to experience chef-driven local dinners featuring Arizona winemakers and even participate in ice cream making classes on a dairy farm.
