Institution of Civil Engineers Visitor Centre

Younger visitors can immerse themselves in 3D scenes inside a new interactive virtual reality cube at the Institution of Civil Engineers' (ICE) free Invisible Superheroes exhibition in London over the summer.

The VR cube gives visitors the opportunity to navigate their way through a series of 3D models. Other interactive stations allow visitors to take their own photos to make a 'reality-mesh' from a physical model of a London Underground station, and to populate a 3D scene with virtual people, plants, and weather.

They're the latest additions to the exhibition which features real-life engineers as cartoon superheroes. Designed to appeal especially to young people, these 'invisible superheroes' are on a mission to save the planet from dangers such as climate change, flooding, and the spread of disease.

Films, animations, interviews, quizzes and games help bring the untold stories behind incredible feats of civil engineering to life. Visitors can also put their own engineering skills to the test by building a model bridge or tunnel boring machine.

  • The Invisible Superheroes exhibition is free to attend and open Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm, throughout the summer at the Infrastructure Learning Hub at One Great George Street, London, SW1P 3AA.

About ICE 200

The Institution of Civil Engineers is reaching a rare milestone in 2018 – a bicentenary.

ICE 200 is a perfect chance to celebrate the institution's longevity, recognise the profession of civil engineering and most importantly the thousands of members who make the institution what it is. ICE will use the bicentenary as opportunity to remind the general public that civil engineers transform their lives for the better and safeguard the future for their families. In doing so, the institution also hopes to encourage young people to see civil engineering as a creative, rewarding and highly enjoyable career.

Events are planned for throughout 2018 and information will be made available on the ICE website.
