Virginia Celebrates Spring With New Giant Love Works

Capital Region USA

Adding to its already impressive collection of installations which celebrate Virginia’s award-winning wines, beautiful beaches, stunning natural landmarks and scenery, racing culture and rich heritage as the birthplace of country music, new LOVEwork displays will be unveiled throughout the year.

LOVE THE SWEET SCENTS OF WINES & VINEYARDS

As a Commonwealth of Wine and one of the top wine destinations in the US with more than 200 wineries, Virginia is celebrating the LOVE for its wine at the charming Veritas Vineyards with an installation made entirely from wine corks. Located in a tasting room and made up of hundreds of corks, each letter stands at nearly six-foot tall suspended above a bar to give the impression that LOVE is floating in mid-air. Set in breathtaking countryside, Veritas Vineyards is located on the Sunrise Side of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Nelson County. Travellers can also see LOVE spelled out in wine barrels in the country setting of Cardinal Point Winery in Central Virginia.

DECK BEACHES WITH LOVE

Share a moment with someone special on one of Virginia’s renowned beaches at Kiptopeke State Park on the Eastern Shore, home to four 10-foot tall deck chairs spelling out ‘LOVE’. Weighing in at more than 500 pounds each chair, the artwork overlooks the world famous Chesapeake Bay which is the largest estuary in the US. Virginia is a destination which boasts beaches big and small - from the large oceanfront of Virginia Beach to the warm and welcoming sands of quirky beaches on the Eastern Shore.

LOVE VIRGINIA’S NATURAL LANDMARKS

Find LOVE buried in beautiful scenery at Luray Caverns, Eastern America’s largest and most popular. This installation is a two-ton, seven-foot tall cabin log structure which spells out ‘LOVE’ to the backdrop of the breathtaking Shenandoah Valley. The artwork took two weeks to build from Yellow Pine harvested from timberland bordering Shenandoah National Park and received a police escort on a six mile journey to the caverns. This Natural Landmark is renowned for unique rock formations, cathedral-sized rooms with ceilings 10 stories high, towering stone columns, crystal-clear pools, and the world's only Stalacpipe Organ creating music of symphonic quality from stone formations.

RACING FOR LOVE

Travellers will feel their heart racing in Virginia this summer and spring at the US’s premier short racing track, Richmond International Raceway, where staff have constructed an installation of LOVE made entirely of racing equipment including racing tyres, racing flags, helmets, metal used to construct the energy absorbent walls of the track, and parts of old racing cars once used to in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and NASCAR Nationwide Series races. One of the most popular facilities among drivers and fans in motorsports, Richmond International Raceway hosts major US racing events such as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and NASCAR Nationwide Series, boasting a unique layout which produces exciting side-by-side racing.

THE SOUND OF LOVE & COUNTRY MUSIC

Let love make your heart sing in the Birthplace of Country Music, Bristol, where travellers will find LOVE layed out with musical instruments including a banjo, guitar, keyboard, microphone and a giant record. The installation plays homage to the Carter Family and is located on the outside of the Arts and Entertainment District of Believe in Downtown Bristol, part of the Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail. Music lovers will also find an impressive artwork of fiddles enclosed in wood and plexiglass in the center of Downtown Galax, a town renowned for its bluegrass and old time music routes.

Travellers to Virginia are encouraged to share the LOVE on Facebook (Facebook.com/VirginiaisforLovers) and on Twitter using the #LOVEVA hashtag.
