We had wonderful news 8th April: that we had won the Luxury Traveller Magazine's Gold List 2013 award for 'best overseas boutique property, villa or lodge'. We won it in 2010 and 2011 but only placed in 2012. For us to beat so many extraordinary properties is a tribute to our many loyal guests as we are competing against a raft of marvellous properties, all larger than us. Here is our history in the awards:

"After placing second to Huka Lodge NZ in 2009 ahead of Como Shambala  and several Amans within Indonesia, the cream of  New Zealand and South African lodges, Blakes in London and the best of Fiji's islands, SUNGAI BALI  topped the Luxury Travel's GOLD LIST  as Best Overseas Boutique Property in 2010 and then again in 2011. Amongst the Top Ten properties that year were Villa d'Este at Lake Como, Italy and the New Zealand lodges: Huka, Blanket Bay, Kauri Cliffs and Matakauri.

To be voted ahead of the wonderful Aman's, Como, and cream of private villas in Bali, the luxury boutique island resorts of Fiji, and the exclusive lodges of South Africa and New Zealand is hugely gratifying for us at SUNGAI and SUNGAI GOLD given that we are considerably smaller operations.

And in 2012 we are again amongst the very best boutique properties in the world, ahead of the likes of New Zealand's Cape Kidnappers, Eagles Nest and The Point Villas, and Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle and several Italian properties.

HOWEVER, in 2013 we beat Huka Lodge into 2nd place again and 14 other top-end properties into minor placings.
