Carnevale di Viareggio 02 Dec 2013
Viareggio Festival In Tuscany February And March 2014

Essential Italy Limited

The Viareggio Carnival (http://viareggio.ilcarnevale.com/) attracts more than one million spectators all gathering to witness the magic of the great parades of papier mache floats which have now been celebrated for over 140 years. The carnival takes place from 6 - 23 February, and again on 2, 4 and 9 March 2014. The city becomes alive with floats, night parties, fireworks, theatre, gastronomic delights and sporting events. Models made from clay, plaster, newsprint, and glue made from flour and water are the simple ingredients  of the biggest show of its kind in the world. The philosophy of recovery and recycling are the basis of the event.

The main city of the northern Tuscan Riviera area of Versilia, Viareggio began as a medieval fishing village, then later gained renown for its shipbuilding. In the mid-19th century, the town was developed as a seaside resort, which it's been ever since. Today, the city is loved for its long beaches, pine woods, great shopping and lively nightlife.
