| Forget Silicon Valley: Vancouver's reputation as a global technological hub is attracting some of the industry's most powerful companies and associations. As of 2014, the city will be home to the world-renowned TED conference, and digital giants Twitter and Facebook are opening offices as well. Twitter has started recruiting for its Vancouver-based "Global Centre of Excellence" with the aim of building a world-competitive software engineering system, while Facebook's offices in Coal Harbour will serve as a training ground for up to 150 software engineering graduates. Vancouver is already the birthplace of tech company Hootsuite, founded in 2008 and now used by organizations and individuals worldwide who want to streamline multiple social media networks. Even better news: delegates travelling to Vancouver need not sneak into Facebook's headquarters to take part in the technological revolution. Industry-leading technology is available across the city at venues like the Vancouver Convention Centre, whose sophisticated, high capacity fibre-optic network helped service the world's media at the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Talk about tech-savvy. |
