Valloire - Small Village Big Skiing - Value : Tradition : Family Fun

Valloire

Valloire (www.valloire.net), the traditional family-friendly village in the Maurienne region of Savoie, opens for skiing on December 12th; with the Galibier-Thabor domain (89 pistes/150km) fully open from December 19th. Building on Valloire's reputation as a safe, crowd-free family resort, Valloire has extended snow–making to a second run down to the village for 2015/16 and offers an outstanding selection of new ski + accommodation packages for independent travellers and families.

The Tribe Package (designed for a group of friends) is priced from €193 per person per week including a 6-day lift pass and 7 nights' self-catered accommodation for arrivals on January 2. The All Inclusive package starts from €367 per person per week and includes 7 nights' accommodation (hotel or apartment), 6-day lift pass, equipment hire and 6 full days of ski school. Short breaks from €113 per person (3 nights' apartment, 3-day lift pass) are on offer in January, March and April) and the last week of the season (April 9-15) is Children's Week: under 16s (with a parent in tow) ski free of charge. Getting to Valloire is easy: by air via Geneva, Lyon, Chambéry or Grenoble; by train in 7.5 hours from London with Eurostar; or by car (motorway to St Michel de Maurienne, 17km from Valloire).

At 1430m, Valloire offers 150 km of pistes between 1450 and 2600m, with 70% of the ski area above 2000m and 50% accessible for adaptive skiers, and WiFi hotspots throughout the resort. Rip up the off-piste, hit the rails and stomp the jumps in the snow park (rails, boxes, kickers, ski-cross, speed-check) and spread your wings with safe instruction in the exciting new sport of speed-riding. There are two ski schools, both with English-speaking instructors and guides; a free nursery lift and a small cross-country ski area. Valloire is the home of Jean-Baptiste Grange, World Champion (Slalom) in 2011 and 2015.

The village has grown up around a fine baroque church and is surrounded by 17 picturesque hamlets (snow-shoe access only). Family-owned hotels extend a warm welcome, friendly service and exceptional home cuisine and there is a wide range of self-catering apartments from basic to luxurious. Special events during the season include Valloire's international Ice Sculpture Competition (25th anniversary January 12-15), Snow Sculpture Competition (January 19-22) and family-friendly festive celebrations at Christmas and Easter. Facilities available all season: ice-skating, bowling, cinema, Spa, and a range of bars and cafés including a pizzeria and crêperie and nightclubs. Younger children especially enjoy farm visits and walks with llamas, horses and donkeys. Shops sell delicious local produce including cheeses, Savoie wines and a locally-brewed beer named after the col du Galibier, one of the toughest ascents on the Tour de France rota.

Prices quoted are based on shared 2* hotel or self-catered accommodation and are subject to availability. Tour operators offering Valloire include Crystal, Erna Low, LaGrange UK, Peak Retreats and Zenith.
