Ottawa, ON;  Adventure travel specialist World Expeditions is pleased to report on the progress of three trekkers undertaking its exclusive trek along the Great Himalaya Trail (GHT) in Nepal. Reaching Makalu Base Camp at 4870m/15,977ft, the trekkers have begun stage two of their seven-stage, 152-day journey along the world's tallest mountain range.

“We left the site in glorious sunshine with the stunning rock walls and domes of the valley leaving us in awe,” describe the trekkers through their blog. “A further day's trek up the valley brought us into sight of the magnificence of Makalu with us camping at Base Camp where the weather has continued clear and the mountain continuingly gazes down at us.”

The trail can be undertaken in one continuous guided trek, available exclusively through World Expeditions, or as individual stages. Stage two, GHT Makalu & Everest Traverse via Sherpani Col, is the most challenging as it crosses the highest passes in the Himalaya. This trail includes crossing the Sherpani Col, West Col and Amphu Labsta to emerge into the Everest region before crossing the Cho La to Gokyo Lakes. There are few villages along the approach to this region and sections of this trip involve roped travel over glaciated and technical terrain but the views must be seen to be believed.

Spanning 1700km/1050 miles in total, the Nepal traverse is nearly the equivalent of walking from Banff, Alberta to Boulder, Colorado. Beginning in the country's far east, where the world's third highest peak stretches skyward, the trail journeys to the high plateaus on the Tibetan borderlands in the far west, encountering some of the wildest and most remote mountain environments on the planet along the way. At each stage, travellers can count on superb Himalayan vistas, remote villages, high mountain passes that lead to rarely visited valleys, not to mention the camaraderie and immense reward that comes from completing an adventure of this kind.
